 IN THE BASSMENT

Since forming in 2010, Hiromi's Trio Project (piano Hiromi, contrabass guitarist Anthony Jackson and drummer Simon Phillips) has explored the richness of the inner voice on their 2011 debut, Voice; the dynamic, unceasing motion of time on their 2013 follow-up, Move; and captured the feeling of their electrifying live performances on 2014's brilliant Alive. With Spark, the trio again exemplifies why DownBeat magazine has called them "one of the most exciting groups working in any genre today," with the leader's effusive, heartfelt virtuosity supported by Jackson's vigorously fluid basslines and Phillips' ability to be simultaneously propulsive and witty behind the kit.

Here's a new video from Reverb.com. too bad they had to remove the TAB. Here's what they had to say about the clip: "We're always looking back at the history of popular music to find inspiring sounds and melodies. In many cases, the most well-known and recognizable tunes come from a different medium altogether: TV. Of course, there are a lot more than 100 classic TV themes and we couldn't include them all."

Winter NAMM was packed with more effect pedals than ever. It was impossible to check out everything, but we were floored by all the  stompboxes we did see. While it was hard to narrow down our favorites, here are 12 pedals that we think you absolutely must put on your 2016 demo list.
