Mapping a nation of regional clusters
The U.S. Cluster Mapping Portal (ClusterMapping.us) provides over 50 million open data records on industry clusters and regional business environments to promote economic growth and U.S. competitiveness. The project is led by Professor Michael Porter through Harvard Business School's Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness in partnership with the U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. Economic Development Administration.

Small Business Association Will Invest in Regional Innovation Clusters
The SBA is investing in regional clusters throughout the United States and intends to award a total of three contracts to contractors to head cluster initiatives. Each contract will be for a base year and four option years. If you're involved with a cluster initiative, consider applying! Success Story: EDA's Revolving Loan Fund
EDA has a number of programs designed to help support economic development and growth. Generally, EDA's investments support communities as they attract businesses, but EDA's Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) program is different. EDA capitalizes funds that are managed and loaned out by local organizations that serve as RLF operators. RLF funds are specifically intended to create small loans for high-risk projects - people who cannot get a traditional loan. Read more

Porter Prize India Applications Now Open
The Porter Prize recognizes the strategic acumen of corporations in India and is named after Harvard faculty member Professor Michael E. Porter. Categories include Enabling Social Progress, Creating Shared Value, Leveraging Unique Activities, and more. The award has a robust three-stage process of making an application, followed by a strategy audit and jury evaluation. Organizations participating in the Porter Prize award selection are also automatically qualified for the IFC-Mint Strategy awards. Organizations are invited to apply by July 31, 2015. The awards ceremony will be held on September 25, 2015 in New Delhi. Read more |

Up to $35 Million in Available Funding through POWER Initiative
Up to $35.5 million in funding is now available through the Partnership for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) initiative. POWER, which was announced at the end of March, is an EDA-led, coordinated effort among multiple federal agencies using existing resources to provide integrated and coordinated investments in communities and workers negatively impacted by changes in the coal industry and power sector. $3 Million Available to Coal-impacted Communities under White House POWER Initiative
The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) has announced the availability of $3 million in planning assistance to communities impacted, or which may be impacted, by contractions in the coal economy. These funds are made available as part of the Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) Initiative, a new interagency effort to assist communities negatively impacted by changes in the coal industry and power sector.
Successful applications will enable affected communities to develop detailed strategies to diversify their economies, create jobs in new or existing industries, attract new sources of job-creating investment, and/or how to provide a range of workforce services that result in industry-recognized credentials for high-quality, in-demand jobs. Funding will be available until expended or until September 30, 2015.
