Mapping a nation of regional clusters
The U.S. Cluster Mapping Portal (ClusterMapping.us) provides over 50 million open data records on industry clusters and regional business environments to promote economic growth and U.S. competitiveness. The project is led by Professor Michael Porter through Harvard Business School's Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness in partnership with the U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. Economic Development Administration.

Where is Silicon Valley?
In a study recently published in Science, MIT Sloan School of Management Professor Scott Stern and PhD candidate Jorge Guzman locate the key places where startups not only survive, but flourish. Municipalities like Menlo Park, Mountain View, and Sunnyvale see startups offer an IPO or get acquired at ten times the California state average. JPMorgan Chase pledges $100M to Detroit revitalization, grants $125,000 to BioSTL
Last May, JPMorgan Chase pledged $100 million over five years to help revitalize the city of Detroit. What made them decide this was an investment they had to make? "We're the largest bank here, consumer bank, middle market bank and large corporate bank. We invested here," Dimon said. "And you know, we're patriotic. We want to see Detroit revive, grow and start to thrive again."
During its Small Business Forward event at Washington University in St. Louis, JPMorgan Chase also announced a $125,000 grant to BioSTL. This brings JPMorgan's total support of BioSTL to $250,000. Read more

Manx Treasury Minister Discusses Clusters in Budget Day Speech
In his February 17, 2015 Budget Day speech, Manx Treasury Minister Eddie Teare discussed the importance of clusters to the Isle of Man's economy. See below for highlights from the speech.
"Manufacturing is important to the Isle of Man. Virtually everything we make here is exported off-Island which helps create further economic benefit. The 23 members of the Isle of Man Aerospace Cluster - now employ nearly 900 skilled engineers and support staff, which is 6% up on the figure of April 2013 and 38% more than in 2006 when the Cluster was created. The Cluster is an integral part of the UK supply chain for the aerospace industry and supplies components for every major civilian and defense aerospace project in the world." Read more
