Mapping a nation of regional clusters
The U.S. Cluster Mapping Portal (ClusterMapping.us) provides over 50 million open data records on industry clusters and regional business environments to promote economic growth and U.S. competitiveness. The project is led by Professor Michael Porter through Harvard Business School's Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness in partnership with the U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. Economic Development Administration.

Lee Munnich Honored at the Microeconomics of Competitiveness Faculty Workshop
Last week, more than 150 faculty from around the world gathered on the HBS campus for the annual Microeconomics of Competitiveness (MOC) Faculty Workshop. The participants engaged with a wide range of topics, including clusters within the United States and beyond. Lee Munnich, Senior Fellow and Director of the State and Local Policy Program at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota, received the 2014 MOC Hall of Fame award to acknowledge his outstanding contributions to the MOC Affiliate Network since 2006. Munnich was instrumental in organizing the launch event for the U.S. Cluster Mapping Portal earlier this year in Minneapolis. Learn more

Regional Report: Advanced Industry Clusters Fueling Growth in the Midwest States
Mark Crawford, Area Development -- Economic growth in the Midwest was steady in 2014, thanks to solid performances by the agriculture and manufacturing sectors, especially transportation equipment. The economy also got a boost from the surging energy sector, led by oil-shale production in Ohio, which improved sales for supporting industries like sand, chemicals, and steel drill pipe made in Midwestern steel plants. DOC Seeks National Partner to Help Lead New Program to Boost Job Talent Development Across America. Deadline: Jan 9
On Monday, November 17, 2014, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker announced that the U.S. Commerce Department's Economic Development Administration (EDA) is accepting proposals for a national partner to help coordinate the Accelerating Industry-led Regional Partnerships for Talent Development Program, a new learning exchange that will focus on building critical regional partnerships to accelerate job skills development across America. Under the newly published Federal Funding Opportunity (FFO), EDA seeks a national partner that will work with the Department of Commerce to launch a regional learning exchange that will identify, promote, and expand on successful best practices for industry-driven regional partnerships for talent development. MONTERREY, N.L., MEXICO -- TCI's annual conference took place in Monterrey, Mexico, N.L., from November 10-13, 2014. Highlights of the global conference program included four immersive cluster labs, twelve plenary sessions, twelve parallel sessions, cluster-to-cluster meetings, and networking events. The U.S. Cluster Mapping Project presented at the conference.
