We hope you will join us for the formal launch of the new U.S. Cluster Mapping website at Mapping the Midwest Future: Regional Innovation Clusters and Competitiveness, hosted by UMN's Humphrey School of Public Affairs. The conference will be a Midwest convening across 12 states and four Canadian provinces.
Key speakers include: Michael Porter (Bishop William Lawrence University Professor, Harvard Business School), Doug Baker (Chairman/CEO, Ecolab), Eric Kaler (President, University of Minnesota), Karen Mills (Senior Fellow, Harvard Business School and former Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration), Matt Rose (Executive Chairman, BNSF Corporation), and Tim Welsh (Director, McKinsey & Company and Board Chair, Greater MSP).

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Pritzker Discusses U.S. Cluster Mapping at the Esri User Conference
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker delivered remarks at the 2014 Esri User Conference on July 14th in San Diego, engaging around 10,000 leading GIS experts in the power and potential of open government data. She specifically addressed the U.S. Cluster Mapping tool, discussing its importance as "a database ... to understand and shape the competitive landscape for a wide range of industries." Learn more

U.S. Census Bureau Releases the 2012 County Business Patterns Data
The U.S. Census Bureau released the 2012 County Business Patterns (CBP) data on May 29, 2014. The U.S. Cluster Mapping website will soon be updated to include this latest dataset. CBP is an annual series that provides subnational economic data by industry. Businesses and government agencies use the data for analyzing market potential, measuring the effectiveness of sales and advertising programs, and developing budgets. Learn more

U.S. Economic Development Administration: 2013 Annual Report
EDA is pleased to announce that its 2013 annual report is now available online. This year's annual report is an exclusively web-based resource. An interactive map allows readers to quickly retrieve a summary of EDA investments in each state. In Fiscal Year 2013, EDA awarded approximately $360 million to support 670 locally-driven economic development projects in communities across the country. Learn more |
U.S. Department of Energy Launches the National Incubator Initiative for Clean Energy
On June 20, 2014, Secretary Moniz announced the investment of $3.2 million to launch the National Incubator Initiative for Clean Energy, which will create a national support network to serve the clean energy small business and entrepreneur community, providing critical technical assistance and training services in order to bring these businesses and entrepreneurs closer to market readiness. U.S. Small Business Administration
Solicitation for Regional Cluster Initiative Services
The SBA, Office of Entrepreneurial Development, has a need for professional support of its Regional Innovation Clusters Program. The SBA intends to award three to four contracts to contractors to head cluster initiatives. Each contract will be for a base year and four option years. The base year is expected to be for a firm-fixed, level-of-effort (not-to-exceed) price of approximately $500,000 to $600,000. The application deadline is July 31, 2014. Learn more

U.S. Small Business Administration:
Competition for Accelerators
The U.S. Small Business Administration has launched a $2.5 million competition for accelerators and other entrepreneurial ecosystem models to compete for monetary prizes of $50,000 each to fund operating budgets. To award the prizes, applicants will be judged by an expert panel that will consider each applicant's mission, founding team members and business goals among other core components. The application deadline is August 2, 2014. Learn more
