National Commander Dellinger Visits Maryland on the Legion's 95th Birthday
This year the National Commander's visit coincided with the 95th Anniversary of the founding of the American Legion in Paris France.
There were plenty of Legionnaires in attendance at Francis Scott Key Post 11 in Frederick for National Commander's Daniel Dellenger's visit.
Your Post presented the National Commander with a check for $100 in the name of the National Emergency Fund.
The National Emergency Fund helps Legionnaires with checks up to $1500, who were affected by disasters like Hurricane Sandy.

Greetings!
It was April 15, 1983 when a small group of Vietnam Era Veterans got together to form American Legion Post 295. They sought to remember those who served both stateside and in Vietnam. The first program adopted by the Post was American Legion Baseball. The remaining Charter Members of American Legion Post 295 are James Ambot, Keith Bauer, John Dochod, Paul Macuch, Rick Price, Tom Rufty and Dale Wright. If anyone has more information on the other charter members we would certainly like it. With Baseball in the forefront Post 295 made waves in the County. It was not until 2003 that Post 295 won it's 1st State Championship. It was quickly followed by a repeat in 2004. Poised to three-peat in 2005, 295 finished 2nd. It would not be until 2008 when Post 295 would win our 3rd State Championship. Several of 295's players went on to sign with major league teams, here are a few from our 2008 Championship Team: - Mike Ryan, Signed as UDFA 2006 by ATL, traded to Anaheim Angles, 2010
- Charlie Cononie (P), Tampa Bay Rays (drafted)
- Dominck Vattuone, Oakland Athletics (minors)
Since the Posts humble beginnings, Post 295 has grown from 27 members in 2001 to 464 (as of 4/11). We have added a Sons of the American Legion Squadron and helped charter an American Legion Auxiliary Unit. The Post added a chapter of the American Legion Riders in 2003. Post 295's Operation Provide Comfort (est 2003) is the model for the National Program, Operation Comfort Warriors. Post Commander Bob Ouellette handed a brochure to the then leading candidate for National Commander David K. Rehbein. Post 295 remains un-credited for the inspiration Imagine the difference you can make in the community by volunteering in some form. It is because of Veterans like you that inspired then Lt Col Teddy Roosevelt Jr to dream of an organization that would become The American Legion. Thank you for your service. Bob Ouellette Post Commander

[Post 295]Soldier's homecoming surprises Maryland children
CLARKSBURG, Md. (WJLA) - Friday was truly a beautiful spring day for two Clarksburg High School students. Ashley and Taylor Campbell thought they would be chatting on-air with WJLA reporters about the hardships of having a parent deployed overseas, but were actually in for a wonderful surprise.
Just as they were talking about coping with their mother's first long-term deployment to Beirut, the reporter told them to turn around.
The children were flabbergasted to see their mother, U.S. Air Force Tech Sgt. Natalie Campbell, standing there, freshly home from her six-month assignment in Lebanon.
Ashley and Taylor knew their mother would be home soon, but didn't think it would be Friday.
" (I'm) just overwhelming to see my kids after so long," Natalie Campbell said. " I just missed them -- the past six months have been very trying."
"She's home now...so she's safe," Ashley Campbell said.
The family is reunited now, and gets to spend some special time together on a cruise before Natalie is again deployed for six months.
