Greetings!
We are back after a SNAFU which deleted our account and the ability to send these fact filled messages.
Post 295 has completed a successful summer and we are looking at a very busy September and October. Our American Legion Baseball teams completed there season and we are grateful for the efforts of our coaching staff. Without their commitment we could not run the program.
We sent three high school juniors to American Legion Boys State. This year James Dobson of Bethesda was elected Governor of Boys State! That is quite and accomplishment and we congratulate James on his efforts.
The 2013 Missing Man Run is not showing the level of participation that we had at this point last year. We need all motorcycle riders and those interested in sponsoring a rider per mile to come register ASAP.
Following on the heals of the Missing Man Run is our 15th Annual Golf Tournament. The golf tournament is a great round of golf for $85, with lunch included!
Do you feel the Umpah music? Come join Post 295 as we operate the Beer Garten at the Germantown Oktoberfest. Saturday October 5th at High Point Farm in Clarksburg.
Yours in Service,
Bob Ouellette, Post Commander

PRESIDENT TO SIGN 'FOR VETS BILL'
Under the bill The American Legion and other veterans service organizations (VSOs) will now be able to obtain a wide range of federal surplus goods (e.g., computers, vehicles, appliances and land) at no cost to support veterans. The amended FOR VETS Act of 2013 cleared the U.S. Senate and is ready for President Obama's signature. The original FOR VETS Act suggested that the no-cost availability of government surplus goods to VSOs be restricted to items aiding veterans' education and health care. The new law clarifies that language and essentially lifts those restrictions. |
LEGION TESTIFIES ON TREATING MILITARY SEXUAL TRAUMA
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has recently expanded its outpatient programs for women veterans suffering from the effects of military sexual trauma (MST), including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Nevertheless, The American Legion has advised Congress that VA needs to provide more inpatient programs for such treatment. According to VA, about one in five women and 1 in 100 men have reported to their health-care provider that they have experienced sexual trauma while in the military.

CUB SCOUT PACK 1760 I have been notified that Cub Scout Pack
1760 has no adult leadership and without it the Pack cannot continue. We need someone to come forward and to take leadership of this Pack or we will give up the Charter.
There is an offer to jointly administer the Pack with another, however, this would for 1 strong pack and leave the identity of the two in jeopardy.
If you can volunteer to assist with the running of this pack, and training is provided, please email me ASAP. If not then 1760 may cease to exist as it's own Pack.

MISSING MAN RUN
The POW/MIA 'Missing Man' Run will be held on Saturday September 14th and will honor the crew of Spectre 17, a C-130 Gunship that disappeared over Laos in 1972 with 17 souls on board. Through a twist of fate, two of the crew survived. The remaining 15 were Missing In Action.
The funds raised by the run will be used to benefit American Legion Post 295's Operation Provide Comfort. Post 295's Operation Provide Comfort has provided the following services to the community, veterans, and the wounded warriors in locale military hospitals and military families in the Gaithersburg-Germantown area since 2003.

The Four Pillars of the American Legion
The roots of The American Legion go back to 1919 and was founded based upon four pillars of service. These four pillars shape our work and what we do for America everyday. Today we continue to pledge ourselves to...
Stand with us and defend the rights of active duty, reserve, National Guard and Veterans.
Sincerely, Robert Ouellette Post Commander
