Happy New Year from Arkansas Justice!

As 2014 comes to a close, we want to thank you for your support--whether you've handled a pro bono case, volunteered at a pro bono event, donated, or served on one of our boards or committees. By making a gift or volunteering your time, you have helped others gain access to the justice system to protect their rights, their freedom, their homes, their livelihoods and their families. We are grateful for your help.

Cast Your Vote for Arkansas Legal Services Partnership

The Arkansas Legal Services Partnership is one of 30 nominees for the Louis M. Brown Award for Legal Access. The nomination highlights ALSP's development of a turnkey "Pro Bono in a Box" event kit for use by bar associations and other partners. The toolkit includes everything needed for the events, including pre-event marketing content, script questionnaires for pro bono attorneys, automated documents, CLE outlines, client scheduling protocols, and much more. Cast your vote for ALSP here. Voting closes January 5, 2015.

IOLTA Insurance Parity Extended to Credit Unions
On December 18, 2014, the Credit Union Share Insurance Fund Parity Act was signed into law. It provides for federal insurance of IOLTA funds held at credit unions in the same manner and amount as provided for through the FDIC at banks. Passage of the act eliminates what has been the major obstacle for attorneys wishing to utilize credit unions for their IOLTA accounts, as Ark. R. Prof'l Conduct 1.15 authorizes credit unions as IOLTA depositories. For more information, click here.

About Us
Nearly one in four Arkansans qualify to receive free civil legal services, yet nearly half of the 30,000 Arkansans who call for help each year are turned away because our two nonprofit legal aid providers lack the resources to serve them.

Our mission is to coordinate statewide efforts to ensure that all Arkansans have a fair opportunity to be heard in court in civil matters. We work with a variety of other partners who share our vision, and together, we undertake innovative projects to accomplish this mission.

This newsletter provides periodic updates on the work of Arkansas Access to Justice, legal aid, our pro bono partners, and the Arkansas IOLTA Program.

Thank you for your interest in our work.

Sincerely,

Amy Dunn Johnson

Executive Director, Arkansas Access to Justice
