Volunteers needed for Field Day!
Friday, June 10th, 1:30-3:00pm

It's time to sign up for Puesta del Sol's Field Day!! Field Day will be held Friday, June 10th, from 1:30-3:00pm. Field Day is one of the most exciting afternoons of the school year. In order to make it a success, MANY parent volunteers are needed to run the 20+ fun events for our kids. Full day kindergarten parents are needed to chaperone groups of children from event to event. Half day kindergarteners are welcome to attend, but as Field Day is held after half day school hours, parent supervision of half day kindies is required. Volunteers Sign Up Here. If you have questions, please contact Carrie Norrah at [email protected]. Thank you!

It's also a great way to get a jump start on an Academic Challenge requirement!

PTA Seeking New El Sol Editor for 2016-2017
The PTA is actively seeking a co-editor for our PTA Newsletter (El Sol). Our current editor has been doing this job for a couple years and now is graduating out of Puesta del Sol parenthood.  However, she will be available this spring and summer to train the new co-editor. One of the editors will continue in their current role for 2016-2017. Editing duties include:
  • Soliciting and compiling articles from PTA committees for El Sol publication
  • Placing content in El Sol via the PTA's Constant Contact portal
  • Coordinating school announcements/information with the communications team.
  • Time commitment is approximately 2-4 hours per week, averaging 2 hours a week most of the year.

It should be noted that the articles submitted to the El Sol Editor will be complete; they will be fully written up and proof-read by at least two parties prior to the Editor being requested to place them in the newsletter. This is to take the burden of writing and editing off this Editor position. This is a great way to work from home and be active in the PTA's activities and promotions. Ideal candidates are comfortable with using computers, have basic word processing software, are timely and detail oriented, and are able to commit for at least a full school year. Duties would be assumed in June of the current school year to allow an overlap and training with the current editorial team. Interested parties please contact [email protected]

Reminder From the PTA Treasurer
Reimbursement submissions due no later than Friday, June 17th

Our fiscal year is nearly over. Please submit all reimbursement requests by Friday, June 17th to ensure payment.  Email [email protected] if you have any questions about reimbursements.

WatchDOGS Seeking Volunteer Dads!
The WatchDOGS program is looking for one or more dads to volunteer to shadow the current WatchDOGS director throughout the 2016-2017 school year with the intent of taking over the program in 2017-2018. This is an exciting time to be a part of WatchDOGS, which has seen a record number of volunteer hours from dads this year. Contact Tony Guidotti at [email protected] for more information.

Join us for a BBQ Lunch before Field Day on June 10
Puesta del Sol is celebrating our annual Field Day on June 10. However, prior to Field Day, our regular lunch will be an outdoor BBQ for students, staff and parents. You are invited to attend and stay for Field Day. Join us in celebrating our annual end-of-school traditions! Please note that attendees will need to sign in at the Main Office, and the cost of lunch is $5.00 for adults. nanse a nosotros!

Help Us With Friday Raffle!
If your kiddos love the raffle Sra. Lee has each Friday in the lunchroom, consider browsing this Amazon wish list and adding an item or two to your next Amazon order! We need a little bit of help to finish out the school year. During the raffle, Sra. Lee pulls 'Cupones de Respeto' from a tub where coupons are collected over the week. Students earn coupons from staff when they make good decisions, show respect in various ways, and demonstrate responsibility. These are the three tenants of positive behavior our school community promotes. Help us recognize our students in a fun way with a small token! The students go nuts over the raffle and often chant and cheer for their classmates when names are called. Thank you for your support!

Spanish Book Fair
Wednesday, June 8 through Friday, June 10

This end of year Book Fair, sponsored by University Book Store, is always a good time to stock up on Spanish books for summer reading. There will be books for every grade, fiction and nonfiction. Included will be some newly published English chapter books as well. The Book Fair will be open:

  • Wednesday, June 8: 8:30am - 9:30am & 11:30am - 2:30pm
  • Thursday, June 9: 8:30am - 9:30am, 11:30am - 1:00pm & 3:30pm - 5:00pm
  • Friday, June 10: 8:30am - 9:30am & 11:30am - 5:00pm, during and after Field Day.

Returning Books to the Library
Emails have been sent to remind parents that books need to be returned or paid for by Monday, June 6th. As students return or pay for lost books, they will be given a raffle ticket that gives them a chance to win prizes (in the library) on Friday, June 17th. The first class to get all their books in will win a prize. This year we will be using Field Day as an extra incentive. Students who have not returned or paid for lost books by Field Day on Friday, June 10th will be spending the afternoon of that day in the library. If there is a financial hardship that makes it difficult to pay for lost books, please contact Stacey Brody or Principal Shearer. Please support our library by helping your students find and return their books.

Fifth Grade Student Artwork Now Due
A letter has been emailed to fifth grade parents which details the Fifth Grade Legacy Project. As part of the Buddy Bench Program, the students will draw colorful bookmarks themed around the charter words for their classroom (happy, safe, respected, friendly, etc.). If your student has not turned in a bookmark, please turn it into Srta. Zelda by Wednesday, June 8th. This will ensure they have a bookmark to exchange during the ceremony on June 13th. More details about the project and a blank copy of the bookmark form can be found in the email sent to fifth grade parents. Questions can be directed to [email protected] or [email protected].
