2015 Walkathon
|
|
Friday, September 25, 2015 3:30 to 6:00pm, Rain or Shine
Raise Funds for our Kids: Our 14th annual Walkathon is a fun family event that raises money for educational programs, student events, teacher & classroom resources, learning opportunities and much more! We ask each student to strive to raise $150 (or $300/family). Kids can get pledges per lap and/or flat-rate pledges from family & friends. Parents, family & friends can also make tax-deductible donations on the PTA Website. And don't forget about your company's Corporate Matching Programs. Every dollar raised positively impacts your child's education and we appreciate support at any level!
Please RSVP: Log in and let us know- yes or no. Parents must RSVP for every Puesta del Sol student by September 23rd. The Walkathon is a festive event with lots of activity and volunteers on camps. Your RSVP allows teachers & staff to help your child get to the right place after school (i.e. Walkathon, buses, pick-up line, etc).
Classes with 100% response by Monday, September 21st will get an extra recess!
WALKATHON Volunteers Needed Help make our Walkathon a Huge Success! We still need your help before/during/after the event. Also older children that need volunteer hours are welcome. A volunteer sign-up page is provided when you RSVP or you can email our fabulous Volunteer Coordinator, Mendi Carroll, at walkathonvolunteer@puestadelsolpta.org. Volunteer today, because we can't do this without you!

School Garden Volunteers Needed
|
|
Please help your new teachers get their classrooms in the school garden regularly and often! You can volunteer in a few different ways:
- Each teacher uses a dedicated plot with their classroom to plan and execute on their lesson plans in the gardens- life science, physical science, and environmental science. Garden activities include: planting seeds, growing worms, measuring growth, soil temperature and pH, doing art and math in the garden, and tending to their teacher's classroom garden plot, including harvesting their bounty for their classroom use!
- Help with the Thursday 2nd recess Garden Club for kids (K-2 and 3-5) to work in the garden every week under teacher and parent volunteer supervision. We plant, weed, water, and compost, discussing what we do in both Spanish and English. Occasionally we have guests from local farms and Seattle Tilth to share their expertise. Garden Club is free, open to all students/all grades, and they just "show up", no registration needed! We have anywhere from 15 to 60 kids in the garden every Thursday afternoon in fall and spring.
