Please join us for our very last Skate King event EVER on Thursday May 28th from 6:00-8:00pm. Skate King will be closing its doors for business on June 30th. To commemorate this news, The PTA Board has decided to combine this event with our Special Membership Budget meeting. Please join us inside Skate King for the meeting portion which will begin at 7:15pm in the lobby (no charge for non-skaters). The budget will be voted on and approved at this meeting. Only PTA members in good standing will be allowed to vote. 

  • Cost is $6/skater (in-lines $4 extra, non-skaters no charge)
  • $1 off if you bring your own skates. 
  • No outside food or drink, cash or check only, NO CREDIT CARDS. 
  • *This is not a drop-off event!

Skate King is located at 2301 140th Ave NE, Bellevue.

If you have any questions about the budget, the treasurers will be available on Tuesday, May 26th from 6:00-8:00pm at Tully's in Eastgate (3080 148th Ave. SE, Bellevue) and on Wednesday, May 27th from 8:30-10:00am in the PTA office (the small room off the school's gym).  If you are unable to make it to either of these, please e-mail treasurer@puestadelsolpta.org with questions.  Board members will also be available with copies of the budget at Skate King on Thursday, May 28th from 6:00pm to 7:15pm, prior to the general membership meeting, to answer any questions.  Membership will vote will be at 7:15pm.

SAVE THE DATE! 5th Grade Graduation

Wednesday, June 17 - 9:15-10:15am

 

The 5th grade graduation ceremony will be held in the gym from 9:15-10:15am on Wednesday, June 17. A celebration with cake and punch will be held in the undercover area between the 4th and 5th grade pod directly after the ceremony. Families can opt to bring a picnic and have lunch with their child. 
  
An end of year pool party at Edgebrook Pool (near Tyee Middle School)  is planned for after school on the same day. Wednesday, June 17 from 1:30-3:30pm. A $5 donation for the pool party is suggested. This will be a kid event except for volunteer chaperones. Permission slips and chaperone requests coming soon.

Field Day Volunteers Needed!
Field Day is Friday, June 19th, 1:30-3:00pm

Drama Club Production: Arabian Nights 

June 12 -13, 7:00pm
Newport High School Performing Arts Center

 

Come make a night of it, and bring your family out to the 4th and 5th grade play The Arabian Nights.  The performances are Friday and Saturday June 12-13th at 7:00 pm, and will be at Newport High School's Performing Arts Center.

 

Tickets will be available for purchase beginning next week online and Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays before and after school beginning Friday May 29th.

 

For you families that have younger kids, it's a great way for your kids to see what they have to look forward to when they're in 4th and 5th grade, and believe us, it will sneak up on you, and they will be there before you know it.

 

The kids have worked hard, come show your support, We hope to see you there.

 

Advocacy News

This week, PTA Board representatives met for the 2nd time with Cindy Rogan, Executive Director for Schools, to talk about equity for Puesta del Sol Elementary in the Bellevue School District.

 

Subjects discussed were English Curriculum, asking how the district plans to support our school community and building as we wait for a new building, and continuity/support for the Int'l Spanish Academy (ISA) for K-12 grade.

 

As we get response from the district, we will update you.

Learn to Code with TechVenture Kids Summer -
SCRATCH: Games and Animations

Do you like to play games or watch animations? Want to create your own?  We'll provide the laptops and instruction for creating your own games and animations featuring Ninja's, Minecraft-type people or your favorite movie characters or something you've drawn yourself.   Your imagination is the only limit.

We will introduce basic, intermediate and advanced coding concepts through unique and fun projects. Each project allows kids to create their own unique games or animations, using concepts they learn along the way. We blend short lessons with lots of hands-on coding time, allowing students as deeply into their own projects as they want.   It's summer, so we'll keep our brains sharp with some fun in the sun time in between projects.

Library News

Spanish Book Fair at Puesta del Sol - We will be hosting one last Spanish University Book Fair in the library from Wednesday, June 17th to the 19th.  This is the perfect time to pick up Spanish books for summer reading.  You will also be able to purchase Spanish and English books at University Book Store on line during the same time as our in-school Book Fair.  Watch for the flyer coming home next week. 

 

Last Day of Book Check Out - Friday, May 29th will be the last day of book check out for the year.  Monday classes will get one more check out on Monday, June 1st because of the previous Monday holiday.  ALL BOOKS must be returned to the library by Monday, June 8th.  Overdue reminders will be sent out via email.  Thanks for returning all your library books or paying for lost books by June 8th. 

  1. The first class to get all their books in to the library will get an extra library time. 
  2. All K - 2nd students receive a raffle ticket when all their books are turned in, and if their raffle ticket is selected, on Friday, June 19th they will have a chance to choose a prize from the library.
  3. All 3rd - 5th students will receive raffle tickets when they return their books, and may use their tickets to win a poster or they may take a chance at winning a library prize.
  4. A yearbook purchased by a student will be withheld until all books have been returned or paid for.
