Walkathon: Run to the Finish Line! 

Pledges due by October 20  

Collect pledges and send in by October 20th to collect your prize. We ask each student to strive to raise $150 (or $300/family). Prizes passed out each week. Don't forget to get your Matching Funds!

Donate online below or send a check payable to "Puesta del Sol PTA" for all cash collected. Deposit all cash or check donations in the secure PTA money mailbox in the front office with your pledge forms or mail to 3810 132nd Ave SE, Bellevue, 98006. Questions? Email deposits@puestadelsolpta.org.

Preorder Yearbooks Before the Price Goes Up!

Please remember to pre-order your yearbook before the price goes up! Yearbooks are $15 until October 3, 2014. After that they are $20. Save yourself some money and pre-order your yearbook early!! Please remember that we are only doing pre-sales and not ordering extra to sell later so if you want a yearbook, now is the time to buy it!

RAD Kick Off - Calling All Reading Enthusiasts!

October 6 - Kick Off
October 9 - Reading Agreements Due 

 

Start tracking your minutes on Monday, October 6th and turn your reading agreements in by Thursday, October 9th.  Please email your RAD classroom coordinator with your minutes each Friday for the next 6 weeks.   Submit your child's favorite book on a star and help us create our "star book list!"  Most of all, have fun and READ!

Watch D.O.G.S. Pizza Launch Party

October 7, 6:00-7:00pm, Gym

Dads and their students share some quality time over pizza for the first half-hour; students are then chaperoned for the final half-hour as they enjoy a short movie in the library while the dads receive information about the WatchDOGS program and are asked to volunteer one day during the school year for their student.

Fifth Grade Events Planning

Parents interested in making 5th grade events memorable this year, please join Emmy Park and Michelle Mahlman at Emmy's home for a planning brunch. We hope to have a teacher tea, legacy gift, grad picnic and graduation day celebration. Your help is needed! Mimosas and tasty breakfast treats will be served. October Skate King Night

Tuesday, October 21 from 6-8 p.m. 
Skate King, 2301 140th Ave NE, Bellevue  

 

Come meet and skate with other Puesta del Sol families at our October Skate King Night!  Cost is $6/skater (in-lines $4 extra, non-skaters no charge).  $1 off if you bring your own skates.  No outside food or drink, cash or check only, NO CREDIT CARDS.  *This is not a drop-off event!  Come help out in the booth selling tickets and handing out raffle tickets! Pumpkin Family Fun Night!

Tuesday, October 28th 6:30 - 8:00pm

Carve your own pumpkin and watch an amazing live pumpkin carving demonstration! Don your favorite western duds and join us for pumpkins, prizes and goodies. Don't miss this festive, fall, family-fun night!   


Please bring a CLEANED OUT pumpkin to carve, plastic carving tools and cash for raffle tickets and treats. No knives please!! Cash donations for the PTA will be accepted.

Academic Challenge School Year 2014-2015

Looking for a challenge?  Academic Challenge is a way for students to challenge themselves and be rewarded for learning outside of school. We've made a few changes this year. Newly updated forms and information are on the  Academic Challenge webpage. This year's choices will be: 

  • Reflections
  • A multicultural project
  • Science Fair Presentation
  • 5 book reviews
  • 8 hours of math
  • 5 hours of typing
  • 5 hours of computer programing

Students must complete at least 4 challenges to receive a trophy. Students who complete all 7 will receive a trophy and the principal's medal.  Questions?  Email Jessica Heringer or Melissa Richardson. 

JOIN TAMBORES DEL SOL -
BEGINNERS AND INTERMEDIATE!
 

Begins Monday, October 13

 

We are excited for the International Festival on March 21st, 2015. Be a part of the celebration and join Tambores del Sol! Tambores is traditional Puerto Rican drummingThe classes are taught by Maestro Ricardo Guity, an experienced musician, educator, and member of our school community. We all know and adore him!

 

We will be starting our first session right away: 

  • Beginners and Intermediate levels will be held in the school gym
  • Open to students in grades 3-5; Exceptions may apply for younger students if they have experience with Tambores.
  • Both Beginners and Intermediate will be taught together on Mondays this year.
  • Intermediate levels will be assisting in the development of new students.
  • Your child will meet the instructor and chaperone in the school gym after school at 3:30pm.
  • Class ends promptly at 4:30pm.
  • The kids have a lot of fun and this is a great way for students to receive additional S.O.S/E.F.E.!!

Register for Bomba del Sol! (space is limited)

NEW START DATE: Begins Tuesday, Oct 14th
  • What: Bomba is a traditional musical style from Puerto Rico, which features a vibrant interaction between drummers and dancers. Students learn new rhythms and develop creative movement as soloists and group performers. The class is taught by Maestro Otoquí Reyes and Maestra Naomi Vázquez and conducted in Spanish. 
  • When: Session 1 classes begin Tuesday, Oct 14th and extends through Tuesday, Dec 16th from 3:30-4:30pm. 
  • 9 classes total: Oct 14, 21, 28; Nov 4, 18, 25; Dec 2, 9, 16
  • Where: Music Portable, P-2 [PTA-member parents are available to guide students to location as necessary]
  • Cost: $15 per class; $135 for Session 1
  • To Register: Class size is limited to 20 students - first come, first served.  Interested families can email Melissa Pearce or Leda Echevers at bomba@puestadelsolpta.org.

The Bellevue Schools Foundation Fall Campaign -
All in for Kids! has begun

The 2nd Annual Clickathon will be Wednesday, October 8th and Thursday, October 9th. Consider donating to the Bellevue Schools Foundation during this two-day event. Gifts of $100 will be matched up-to $10,000 by Foundation supporters. Go to the Bellevue Schools Foundation website to "Click for Kids". Donate to the Fall Campaign by October 27 and you won't be called during the Phonathon. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
 

  • Volunteers are needed: Monday, November 3rd through Thursday, November 6th to staff the phones for the All in for Kids! Phonathon. Shifts are 5:00-8:30pm. Training and food will be provided. Come and enjoy the camaraderie and festive atmosphere as we call all district parents to ask for donations. Please contact Koan Maurer if you are interested in volunteering.
  • Save the date! Friday, April 24, 2015 is the BSF Spring for Schools Luncheon.


The Bellevue Schools Foundation is a community organization that raises funds to give every child in Bellevue's public school the education they need and deserve. They bridge the gap between state funding and what students truly need to be successful.
