What a Fun & Successful 2014 WALKATHON!

Our Puesta Del Sol Students showed up ready to walk, dance, have fun and support our school! We are well on our way to achieving our $40,000 goal, so please keep those donations and pledges coming in!

As of September 25, here are the preliminary Walkathon fundraising totals:
- We have received a total of $25,966 in Walkathon donations
- Bake Sale proceeds: $1,127
- Pizza & Water Sales: net $212
- Raffle proceeds: $2,850

Don't forget to have your company match your Walkathon donation or your eligible PTA membership! Microsoft and Boeing employees must go online to have their contributions matched, other companies have varying procedures. Company matches to Walkathon donations do not count towards prize levels. Preorder Yearbooks Before the Price Goes Up!

Please remember to pre-order your yearbook before the price goes up! Yearbooks are $15 until October 3, 2014. After that they are $20. Save yourself some money and pre-order your yearbook early!! Please remember that we are only doing pre-sales and not ordering extra to sell later so if you want a yearbook, now is the time to buy it!

The 6th Annual Watch D.O.G.S. of Western Washington Golf Tournament

WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative father involvement, educational initiative of the National Center For Fathering that gets Dads and Father-Figures more involved with their children's education by volunteering at least one school day out of the year. You are invited to participate in this fun golf tournament that supports all of the participating schools in Western Washington with Watch D.O.G.S.

RAD Kick Off - Calling All Reading Enthusiasts!
|
|
Readers Are Doers (RAD), the school-wide reading challenge, starts soon and we would love to have you on our team! RAD is a short-term volunteer opportunity which will be done by Thanksgiving! If you want the chance to work in your child's classroom once a week for 20-30 minutes and love promoting the joys of reading, this one is for you. Watch D.O.G.S. Pizza Launch Party
|
| October 7, 6:00-7:00pm, Gym
Dads and their students share some quality time over pizza for the first half-hour; students are then chaperoned for the final half-hour as they enjoy a short movie in the library while the dads receive information about the WatchDOGS program and are asked to volunteer one day during the school year for their student.

Academic Challenge School Year 2014-2015
|

Looking for a challenge? Academic Challenge is a way for students to challenge themselves and be rewarded for learning outside of school. We've made a few changes this year look for newly updated forms and information coming soon to the PTA website. This year's choices will be:
- Reflections
- A multicultural project
- Science Fair Presentation
- 5 book reviews
- 8 hours of math
- 5 hours of typing
- 5 hours of computer programing
Students must complete at least 4 challenges to receive a trophy. Students who complete all 7 will receive a trophy and the principal's medal. Questions? Email Jessica Heringer or Melissa Richardson.

Experience Bomba del Sol...Classes starting soon!
|
|
What: Bomba is a traditional musical style from Puerto Rico, which features a vibrant interaction between drummers and dancers. Students learn new rhythms and develop creative movement as soloists and group performers. The class is taught by Maestro Otoquí Reyes and Maestra Naomi Vázquez and conducted in Spanish. When: Classes are Tuesdays, Oct 7, 2014 through Apr 28, 2015, from 3:30-4:30pm. Students will perform in the International Festival and in a School Assembly. Session 1 will have the following dates: Oct 7, 14, 21, 28; Nov 4, 18, 25; Dec 2, 9, 16 [Total of 10 classes] Cost for session I is $150 ($15 per class).

Tillicum Remodel Informational Meeting
|
|
Wednesday, October 1, 7:00pm, Tillicum Middle School Commons
Tillicum Middle School is scheduled for a full rebuild with construction scheduled for June 2016-June 2018. Tillicum will relocate to the Bellevue School District's Ringdall Campus for the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years, with the new building scheduled to open for the first day of classes in September 2018. The design development process began last year and architects for NAC Architecture will host a community meeting at Tillicum on Wednesday, October 1st, at 7:00 PM. Please mark your calendars for this opportunity for overview of the design for the new Tillicum.

Bellevue Schools Foundation
|
|
The Bellevue Schools Foundation is a non-profit organization separate from the school district that develops, promotes, and funds learning opportunities for students in all of Bellevue's public schools. At Puesta del Sol, they have helped provide the funding for the Dreambox math program and have provided funding to help our teachers obtain their National Board Certification. They also run and test programs throughout the district, like the Elementary STEM Program that will come to Puesta del Sol in 2015-2016. If you would like to learn more or would like to volunteer with the Bellevue School Foundation Fall Campaign - All in for Kids please contact Koan Maurer.
