Have you chaperoned a field trip this year? Baked cookies for a class party, helped at passport check, volunteered in a classroom, worked on a PTA activity, or helped Puesta del Sol in any other way? If you have volunteered 4 hours or more in 2013, Microsoft will donate $17 per hour to the PTA.

Please log your hours on the Microsoft website before December 31 and the PTA will receive a donation for the work you've done. Thank you!

Thank you for Making our 3rd Winter Spanish Book Fair a Success!


We earned $835.42 for our Spanish Immersion through the Arts Programming. We would like to thank Sra. Brody, Aida Ebeling, Maestro Ricardo Güity, Omar Escobar, Camila Aguirre, Sra. Colyer, Sr. Mattson, Sophia McKinstry, and the entire school community for helping us raise funds this year! Congratulations to Kylee Seibel, winner of our XBOX raffle!!!

Printmaking Class for Art Docents

Friday, January 24 in the PdS Art Room

Attention Art Appreciation parents! Have you run out of ideas for art projects? Or do you like exploring new mediums? We have just the thing for you for your next class project. Come join us for an art class and learn about printmaking! Printmaking allows one to try out lots of different techniques and to see cause and effect in action more dramatically than with simply painting or drawing.

5th Grade Parent Open House at Tillicum Middle School
January 23 at 6:30 p.m.

Parents of incoming 6th graders are invited to attend this informative evening program. You will have an opportunity to follow a mini schedule to get a sample of a typical middle school day.  8th grade students will be Tillicum Ambassadors and administrators and counselors will be on hand to answer questions. The evening's schedule includes a visit to the Library, Art Studio, Technology Shop, Computer Lab, Music Wing and Gymnasium.

Clip and Earn Money for Puesta Del Sol's Kids

Families, start clipping and saving box tops NOW! The grade level that turns in the most Box Tops during this time period will receive an Ice Cream Party in February! Kids can turn Box Tops & Labels For Education into the collection box in their classroom. Only current, not expired BT/labels will count toward the total. Each Friday, the BT team will collect/count/track each grade levels progress.

Bellevue Quality Schools is a non-profit volunteer group that works to get the BSD Bond and Levies to pass. Bellevue is known for our excellent public schools and strong community support for education. On February 11, 2014, YOU can continue that support by voting YES three times to approve the two Levies and one Bond issue.

Educational Programs & Operations Levy:
25% of the Bellevue School district's Operating Budget
Includes 1 out of 3 teachers, additional class periods, teacher training, student programs such as Music, Art, World Languages, and Gifted & Special Education

Technology & Capital Levy:

Provides new classroom technology to better prepare our kids for the future
Ongoing facility maintenance to keep our buildings safe & sound
Replacement and improvement of school sports fields

Capital Construction Bond:

This Bond will continue the program that began in 2002 to rebuild all Bellevue School District schools. 3000 new student spaces will be added by
*    Constructing two new schools
*    Rebuilding 5 Elementary Schools (Bennett, Clyde Hill, Enatai, Puesta del Sol, Stevenson)
*    Rebuilding Highland Middle School
*    Modernizing International and Big Picture Schools
*    Adding capacity to Newport High School and Woodridge Elementary

We Need You!
 Volunteer and Make a Difference for Bellevue Schools


The success of the 2014 Bond and Levies is important to maintain and enhance the quality of education in Bellevue and helping with the phone bank is one way you can contribute! 

Teachers and Administrators from Puesta del Sol will be manning phones to ask for support for our schools and the 2014 Bond and Levy Campaign on January 30, 2014. We need parents, grandparents, and other Puesta del Sol supporters to join and help this campaign succeed. At least 10 parents from Puesta del Sol are needed to call on January 30, 2014. There will be 2 shifts available (early starting around 5 p.m. and late starting around 6 p.m.- exact times to follow) and a light dinner or snacks will be provided. Callers are welcome other nights as well (January 28-30, Feb 3-5 and 10).

Mary Fredericksen and Jessi Bixby have chaired for the last 4 years and are looking for volunteers to shadow them this year and take over the following year.

The 2014 Puesta del Sol Auction is March 29! We are still in need of donations for our Dessert Dash. The Dessert Dash raised more than $4,000 in 2012 for our fabulous school! Fiesta Latina: Latin-American Dance Lessons

Join Fiesta Latina time at Puesta del Sol with a new Latin-American social dance class! Learn Salsa, Merenge, Bachata, Reggaeton and much more. Get inspired and develop creativity, improve coordination, boost confidence and gain an understanding of Latin American social dancing all by moving to the rhythms and beats of fun music!! BONUS Class taught in Spanish. (Max.16 students).

The class is taught by Maestro Otoquí and Maestra Naomi (just in from Puerto Rico!!) This is a great EFE/SOS opportunity as all instruction is in Spanish!

Time to Hit the Slopes!
Sign up for Bellevue Ski School this Winter

This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy skiing or snowboarding with friends on Saturdays this winter.
  • Classes begin January 11th
  • Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.  
  • Beginners to advanced welcome
  • Register by November 30th at www.bellevueskischool.com 

Transportation
Elementary classes are taught at Snoqualmie Summit Central Ski area with transportation from Phantom Lake Elementary School. All buses and lunches are chaperoned by adult volunteers.

Bellevue Ski School has offered premier quality snowboarding and skiing instruction for students in grades 2 through 12 since 1958.  We are affiliated with the Bellevue School District and managed by parent, teacher and community volunteers.

Enjoy some ice skating at Bellevue's Downtown park, November 29-December 20, 2013 & January 5-12, 2014, and earn some money for Puesta del Sol, by mentioning our school to the ticket seller. Admission to the rink is $12/person (includes skate rental), $8/person for those six and under.Puesta del Sol receives $3 from every paying visitor from our school who notifies the rink staff upon paying that they are affiliated with Puesta del Sol.
