Walkathon: Run to the Finish Line!
Pledges due by October 21
Thank you to all that participated in this years Walkathon. It was a great success! We had over 500 kids walking, running, eating, and dancing! Please remember, as much fun as the Walkathon is, it's also a fundraiser that is critical to our PTA's programming (Amities, RAD, Math Olympiad, field trips, ect).
Our goal for this fundraiser was $40,000. We are only at 44% collected which brings us to $25,000 thus far....
Donations are due b y Monday, October 21st. Parents donate here and friends and family don't need an account to donate at our Guest Donation page. If you choose to send in a check, please make the check payable to "Puesta del Sol PTA". Deposit all cash or check donations in the secure PTA money mailbox in the front office with your pledge forms.
We appreciate support at any level, so please give what you can. Appreciation gifts are offered at the $75 and $150 giving levels for pledges received by Monday, October 21st. Thank you!

Come meet and skate with other Puesta del Sol families at our first Skate King Night of the year. Show off your Halloween costume (no masks or full face makeup please)
Cost is $5/skater (inlines $4 extra, non-skaters no charge)
No outside food or drink, cash or check only, NO CARDS
*This is not a drop-off event

4/5th Grade Adult-Student Book Club
First Meeting: October 21, 7-8 p.m. in the library
At the first meeting in October, Mrs. Brody, librarian, will have ready the first book that participants will read for discussion in November and choose books for Jan., Feb. and March. Each adult/student team will get one copy of the book to read each month. In order to understand how a book club works from start to finish, it is essential that you make a commitment to attend all 5 meetings.

Tour the library and learn how to cover books
Our librarian, Sra. Brody, is looking for additional help in the Puesta del Sol library and will be demonstrating the skill of covering books on Wednesday morning. This is a task volunteers can come in and do almost any time. Covering books is a great way to see what's coming in and contribute to our children's education. With more help, she can focus on some of the other great projects she is planning for the library this year.

Dia de Los Muertos Carnaval
Friday, November 1st from 6-8 p.m. in the PdS Gym Join us for a Spanish event that is fun for the whole family!
International Spanish Academy (ISA) students from Tillicum will be conversing with your students in Español while helping kids enjoy an inflatable obstacle course, games with prizes, face painting and crafts. Newport High ISA students will also be demonstrating their Frisbee-throwing robot!
All of these activities come with the price of admission. Save time, paper and money by purchasing kids' tickets online hereChildren are $9 each or get a family pass for $25. Adults are FREE!

Activities for Kids

Grades 4/5: Hands on Equations starts November 7
Hands on Equations uses manipulatives to enable kids to have a concrete understanding of algebra. At the end of the class your student will be able to confidently solve 2-3 step equations and explain the distributive property.
Schedule: 3:30-4:30 p.m., Thursdays from November 7-December 19
Tuition: $60 (PTA scholarships available here)

Tambores del Sol will meet as follows:

We would like to grow our Passport Presentation Resources page on our PTA website here and need your help! Please send any Passport Presentations you have created to passport@puestadelsolpta.org. Forum on Social Emotional Development

Do you want to learn more about the new social/emotional approach being taken in Bellevue schools? Marc Brackett, the lead author of the RULER Approach will be speaking at Kane Hall, UW. The Emotionally Literate Child
Thursday, October 31, 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
WISC - Rainier Room
Research shows that children with strong social and emotional skills demonstrate higher academic achievement, are more engaged in school, and are less likely to suffer from bullying or depression. Dr. Marc Brackett, Director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and co-creator of the RULER approach, will share his behind-the-scenes knowledge of the curriculum being adopted in Bellevue schools this year and explain how it helps children to become emotionally literate and prepared for success.
Complimentary lunch will be provided by the Foundation and the students in Newport High School's Culinary Arts Program. Please register i n advance here.
