First Day Packets

Please return first day packets which include proof of residency, emergency and health forms to the front office.

Due October 25th!
Clip, save & drop them in the Box Top box located in the office on the counter to the left of the door. Each Box Top is worth 10 for our school! That adds up FAST!

Purchase participating products at Safeway and 10% of the price will be donated to Puesta del Sol PTA. Register your Safeway and/or credit cards at escrip.com. Renew annually!

Amazon will donate 8% of every purchase you make to BSF for every time you shop amazon.com!

Dining for Dineros
Ooba Tooba Mexican Grill in Factoria will donate 10% of your bill after 3pm weekdays and all day on the weekends. Don't forget to mention Puesta del Sol when you order!

Check for Lice
Lice are prolific in the Pacific Northwest. Be sure to check your child regularly with a lice comb.

Book Fair was a Success

Thank you to our fabulous volunteers for putting in their time to set up and help run the 2013 Scholastic Fall Book Fair!
As a result of your support, we raised more funds than last year! Funds are used to help purchase new books and supplies for the library, the Readers Are Doers (RAD) program, and this year, the new thesauruses for the 5th grade classes.

PTA General Membership Meeting

Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

Come join your PTA Board of Directors for our first General Membership Board meeting. We promise this is not a typical boring meeting! Agenda is as follows:

  • Standard rules, standards of conduct, and approve amended budget

  • Getting dads involved
  • Fun upcoming events this year
 Food and coffee will be served!  No babysitting this time but we are working on it for the future. Hope to see you there!

Latin Fiesta Group Dance Lessons
Classes begin October 15th

Join fiesta time at Puesta del Sol with a new Latin dance class! Get inspired by the fun music and learn to dance while gaining a deeper understanding of social dancing in the Latin American life style while practicing Spanish in a casual way.

Cost: $62 per student/month (10% sibling discount)
Meets: 3:40 - 4:30 p.m. (Tuesdays, K-2), (Thursdays 3rd-5th Grade)

There are still a few spots left for the house party hosted by Foundation Ambassador and parent, Aimie Vargas. Puesta del Sol parents will get the opportunity to lunch with Dr. Tim Mills, Bellevue School District Superintendent, and Roxanne Kron Shepherd, Foundation Executive Director Bellevue Schools Foundation. They will answer questions and share how the two organizations are working together to give Bellevue students the world-class education they need and deserve.

Skate King Night
October 29 from 6-8 p.m.
2301 140th Ave NE, Bellevue

Come meet and skate with other Puesta del Sol families at our first Skate King Night of the year. Show off your Halloween costume (no masks or full face makeup please)

Cost is $5/skater (inlines $4 extra, non-skaters no charge)
No outside food or drink, cash or check only, NO CARDS
*This is not a drop-off event

Dia de Los Muertos Carnaval
Friday, November 1st from 6-8 p.m.

Some of our very own International Spanish Academy Tillicum Middle Schoolers will be conversing with your student in Espanol! There will be plenty of games, treats to eat, and prizes! Fun for the whole family in our Puesta del Sol gym! More information coming soon.

Walkathon: Run to the Finish Line!
Pledges due by October 21

Collect pledges and send in by October 21st to collect your prize. We ask each student to strive to raise $150 (or $300/family).

Donate online here or send a check  payable to "Puesta del Sol PTA" for all cash collected. Deposit all cash or check donations in the secure PTA money mailbox in the front office with your pledge forms. Questions? Email deposits@puestadelsolpta.org.

Marimba and Choir Begins in November!

Marimba band and choir starts the first full week of November as follows:

5th Grade Marimba- Tuesdays from 8-9 a.m.
4th Grade Marimba- Thursdays from 8-9 a.m.
3rd/4th/5th Grade Choir- Wednesdays from 8-9 a.m.

Look for entry forms coming home from school soon. Please be sure to follow all rules and guideline as entries not doing so will not have the opportunity to move forward to the district judging in the competition. Volunteer Opportunities
We need YOU for our 2013/14 Hollywood Gala Auction!

Please volunteer, procure, donate and attend this year's auction on March 29, 2014 at the Bellevue Hyatt. We are looking for someone to shadow and eventually lead the procurement team.

Calling all Bakers!
Delicious Desserts needed for the March Auction

The Dessert Dash Team is working diligently to procure 30 fabulous desserts for the March school auction. If you can contribute a scrumptious dessert, please contact Shari Sparling at sparlingshari@comcast.net.
The Dessert Dash raised over $4,000 for the school in 2012! Help us beat that goal this year.

Walkathon Co-Chairs Needed for 2014-2015
The only thing needed to co-chair Walkathon is some organizational skills, the willingness to pull all the parts together, and a whole lot of enthusiasm!  So consider grabbing a buddy and emailing us at walkathon@puestadelsolpta.org with any questions you may have.

District Events

Impulso Escolar Meeting

Friday, October 18 from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
Jubilee REACH Center

The District level Latino parent advisory council, Impulso Escolar will meet monthly starting in October. The goal of these meetings is to provide a welcoming and understanding venue for representatives to share with the group feedback and suggestions about Latino families and students at their schools. Also, the group meets with school and district administrators to collaborate and support their efforts reaching out to the Latino community and supporting students. At the meetings, the group will also plan events and activities to reach out to the larger Latino community. In the 2013-2014 school year, Impulso Escolar will meet monthly from 8:30 to 10:30 am at Jubilee REACH Center located at: 14200 SE 13th PL, Bellevue, WA 98007.

Forum on Social Emotional Development
Tuesday, October 29 at 7 p.m.
Kane Hall, UW

Do you want to learn more about the new social/emotional approach being taken in Bellevue schools? Marc Brackett, the lead author of the RULER Approach will be speaking at Kane Hall, UW. Dr. Tim Mills will be introducing Marc and panelists will include people from Bellevue. For more information click here .


The Emotionally Literate Child
Thursday, October 31, 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
WISC - Rainier Room

Research shows that children with strong social and emotional skills demonstrate higher academic achievement, are more engaged in school, and are less likely to suffer from bullying or depression. Dr. Marc Brackett, Director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and co-creator of the RULER approach, will share his behind-the-scenes knowledge of the curriculum being adopted in Bellevue schools this year and explain how it helps children to become emotionally literate and prepared for success.

Complimentary lunch will be provided by the Foundation and the students in Newport High School's Culinary Arts Program. Please register in advance here.

This event is part of Education Connections, a speaker series provided as a community service by the Bellevue Schools Foundation.
