The Luther College Black Student Union invites everyone to a campus-wide panel discussion entitled, "Black Lives Matter:The Luther Experience". The panel will touch on some of the issues people of color face nationwide as well as in Decorah and at Luther College. The panel, comprised of Luther students and faculty will take place on Wednesday, November 16 in F.W. Olin Building, Room 102 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

When the UK voted for Brexit, many people who were immigrants and refugees experienced harassment and fear. The idea of wearing a SAFETY PIN caught on as a way to identify oneself as an ally to others around them. The US has taken up this idea to help those who feel scared or nervous to identify who is an ally. If you would like to wear a safety pin to show your support, come get one in the Diversity Center. More information Featuring a repertoire of classical compositions, the Luther College Chamber Orchestra will perform a concert at 4 p.m. Saturday, November 19, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. The Chamber Orchestra will perform Mozart's "Overture to La Clemenza di Tito," and Wagner's "Siegfried Idyll." The orchestra will also perform Haydn's "Cello Concerto in D major" which will feature Philip Borter, Luther assistant professor of music, on cello.
The Luther College Concert Band, under the direction of Joan deAlbuquerque, will present a concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, November 20, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. The performance will be streamed live at stream.luther.edu/music. The band will perform works by Percy Fletcher, Percy Grainger, Rossano Galante and Joseph Turrin.

The Center for Sustainable Communities is seeking a work study student to carry out the job of the Marketing and Communications Coordinator for the 2017-2018 academic year. The College is establishing a new policy in which Luther email accounts for students, faculty and staff will require Google 2-Step Verification. Faculty and staff must enable Google 2-Step Verification prior to December 1, 2016 for all Luther email accounts in order to continue to successfully sign in. Students must enable Google 2-Step Verification prior to February 1, 2017 for their Luther email accounts. You may enable 2-Step Verification yourself or attend a session for assistance. Luther College's Philharmonia will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 17, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther campus. The program features the following works: the first movement of Symphony No. 1 by Beethoven, "Five Courtly Dances from Gloriana" by Benjamin Britten and "A Shakespeare Suite: Film from Richard III" by William Walton.
Who do you trust and why do you trust them? The VPA department explores these questions through dance in their production of "Who Do You Trust?" in the Center for the Arts, Jewel Theatre. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 17; 9:30 p.m. Friday, November 18; and 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, November 19.
The performance features nine unique and deeply evocative duets within a gallery exhibition format.
The Luther College Jazz Band is in concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 15,
in Luther's Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall. Also performing in the concert is the Luther College Supersax Ensemble featuring Luther students and professors.

The Center for Sustainable Communities will be offering free winter bike storage for all students and staff on Thursday, November 17 and Friday, November 18. Bicycles will be placed in secure, dry storage in the Ashmore-Jewell Barn (the red barn next to Baker Village). All bikes must be registered for storage and brought to the barn from 3-6 p.m. Register your bike and read the winter storage policy on the Bike transportation webpage.

We invite candidates for the Goldwater, Truman, and Udall nationally competitive scholarships. Please review these credentials and websites, and then make an advising appointment with Ann Landstrom, fellowship advisor in the dean of the faculty office, through email. Students should begin their applications now to present competitive applications for the campus and foundation review processes. Goldwater Scholarship - Sophomores and juniors in the fields of mathematics, science, computer disciplines, and engineering are eligible to apply for one and two year scholarships to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board, with a maximum of $7,500 per year, for undergraduate education. Academic qualifications include a minimum GPA of a 3.0, with competitive standards at 3.5 or better. Website. The campus deadline is Friday, January 6, 2017 at 2 p.m. Truman Scholarship - Juniors with a plan to pursue careers in government or elsewhere in public service will be interested in this scholarship to support up to $30,000 toward a public service-related graduate degree. Applicants must have strong academic credentials with a significant leadership and public service record. Website. The campus deadline is Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 2 p.m. Udall Scholarship - Sophomores and juniors with distinct leadership, public service, and commitment in the areas of the environment, tribal policy, and native health care are eligible for undergraduate scholarships up to $7,000 each. Qualifications include community service and leadership records, along with a college GPA of at least a "B" or the equivalent. Website. The campus deadline is Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 2 p.m.
