Center Stage Series presents Rosanne Cash Duo: The River & the Thread Saturday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the CFL Main Hall. Rosanne Cash, the eldest daughter of Johnny Cash, will be touring with her husband (and co-writer) John Leventhal to perform her three-time Grammy Award-winning latest release, The River & the ThreadThis is a green card event! Tickets are free to students with CAF! Tara Meade, adjunct professor of music at Luther College, will perform a faculty flute recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 28, in Noble Recital Hall of Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Collaborating with Meade on the performance are music faculty Kathy Reed, harpsichord; Philip Borter, cello; and Nicholas Shaneyfelt, piano.

Luther College Visiting Instructor in Music Brad Schultz will perform a Halloween organ recital at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, October 29, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. Schultz will perform a wide range of spooky and novel works by Olivier Messiaen, Louis Vierne, Naji Hakim, Modest Mussorgsky, Guy Bovet, and Johann Sebastian Bach's famed Toccata and Fugue in D minor.

Rachel Brummel, Luther College assistant professor of environmental studies, will give a 2016-17 Paideia Texts and Issues lecture at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, in the Recital Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. Her lecture is titled Trust in Commons: On Interdependence and Saving the World. A reception in Qualley Lounge will follow.

Farida Jalalzai, the Luther College Women and Gender Studies program's fall 2016 Price Lecturer, will deliver a lecture titled, "The Global Dimensions of Women's Leadership" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 2 in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206. Jalalzai is the Hannah Atkins endowed chair and associate professor of political science at Oklahoma State University.

University of Iowa professor Cornelia Mutel will give a presentation on Wednesday, October 26 at 7 p.m. in F.W. Olin Building, Room 102. In her book, "A Sugar Creek Chronicle: Observing Climate Change from a Midwestern Woodland" Mutel presents a personal exploration of climate change, localizing her observations in the forest that surrounds her home outside of Iowa City, while exploring broader questions about the nature and impact of climate change. Sponsored by the Center for Sustainable Communities.  

All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend Squash Fest 2016 at the Luther College Gardens on Friday, October 28 from 3-6 p.m. This event will have activities including eating squash, painting squash, participating in the Midwest's official Rutabaga Curling event, listening to music and exploring the Luther College Gardens. The Luther College Gardens are located at 2132 Pole Line Rd, across Highway 52.  

Relationship Abuse Advocate on campus - An advocate from the Domestic Abuse Resource Center with Helping Services for Northeast Iowa is available to consult on the 1st Friday of each month in the Counseling Service office from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-5 p.m. Appointment is not necessary; you may come in and ask to speak with the advocate. You can also call the resource line 24/7 at 1-800-383-2988.
 
Sexual Assault Advocate available on campus - An advocate from Riverview Center is available the 2nd Friday of each month in the Counseling Service office from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-5 p.m. Appointment is not necessary; you may come in and ask to speak with the advocate.  ou can also call the resource line 24/7 at 1-888-557-0310.

Things We Do Not Say,  an art exhibit featuring the work of Jordan Acker Anderson and Josh Anderson will be on display from October 25 to December 9 in the Kristin Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery in the Center for the Arts. The artists will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 2 in the Center for the Arts, Room 203.

RERUNS
Center Stage Series presents L.A. Theatre Works Judgment at Nuremberg Thursday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m.in the CFL Main Hall. In its signature radio-theater style, L.A. Theatre Works brings vivid life to the absorbing and complex drama of the Nuremberg Trials. Stay for the post-performance discussion led by Victoria Christman, Director of the Center for Ethics and Public Engagement in collaboration with Paideia. The Religion department will show the Academy Award winning film, "Spotlight," from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 25 in F.W. Olin Building, Room 102. "Spotlight" is the compelling true story of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Boston Globe investigation that challenged and uprooted one of the world's oldest and most trusted religious institutions. A discussion led by religion department faculty will follow the showing of the film.

Featuring four talented jazz musicians and an original suite based on the poetry of Shel Silverstein, the Chad Eby Quartet is performing a recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 27, in the Recital Hall in the Center for Faith and Life. The quartet is also hosting a jam session at 9 p.m. Friday, October 28 at Marty's. The jam session includes performances from Luther jazz students.

The Luther College Physics and Chemistry departments invite community members to experience optical illusions and laser displays and enjoy the mystifying side of science during their Haunted Lab from 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 28, and 1-5 p.m. Saturday, October 29. The event is open to the public with no charge for admission. The Haunted Lab's team of "science ghosts" will lead activities designed to be fun for visitors of all ages.

The Department of  Biomedical Sciences at Iowa State University will be on campus Wednesday, October 26 in the Dahl Centennial Union from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
 to visit with students about their 1-year, non-thesis Master of Science program. Graduates of the program may attend professional schools or continue studying in a PhD program. The core curriculum includes study of both human and animal sciences in 30 credit hours of graduate-level coursework.

Volunteer/Non-Profit Career Fair: Thursday, November 3, Dahl Centennial Union, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Looking for an internship, part-time, full-time, or volunteer position in the non-profit sector? Attend this event and network with representatives from over 25 organizations about their career opportunities. Check out the Career Center's website for a current list of participants. 

Lutheran Volunteer Corps! Spend a year making a difference with Lutheran Volunteer Corps! Thirteen Luther College alums are serving with LVC right now!Elizabeth Flomo, LVC alum & LVC Recruitment and Outreach Manager, will be at an information table outside Marty's on Tuesday, October 25 and in the Union Main Lounge on Wednesday, October 26, 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. both days.

Get out and enjoy Luther's natural areas: Participate in volunteer events including prescribed fires and buckthorn removal. Students and the wider community are encouraged to participate.
