ANNOUNCEMENTS
Center Stage Series presents L.A. Theatre Works Judgment at Nuremberg Thursday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m.in the CFL Main Hall. In its signature radio-theater style, L.A. Theatre Works brings vivid life to the absorbing and complex drama of the Nuremberg Trials. Stay for the post-performance discussion led by Victoria Christman, Director of the Center for Ethics and Public Engagement in collaboration with Paideia. The Religion department will show the Academy Award winning film, "Spotlight," from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 25 in F.W. Olin Building, Room 102. "Spotlight" is the compelling true story of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Boston Globe investigation that challenged and uprooted one of the world's oldest and most trusted religious institutions. A discussion led by religion department faculty will follow the showing of the film.

Featuring four talented jazz musicians and an original suite based on the poetry of Shel Silverstein, the Chad Eby Quartet is performing a recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 27, in the Recital Hall in the Center for Faith and Life. The quartet is also hosting a jam session at 9 p.m. Friday, October 28 at Marty's. The jam session includes performances from Luther jazz students.

The Luther College Physics and Chemistry departments invite community members to experience optical illusions and laser displays and enjoy the mystifying side of science during their Haunted Lab from 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 28, and 1-5 p.m. Saturday, October 29. The event is open to the public with no charge for admission. The Haunted Lab's team of "science ghosts" will lead activities designed to be fun for visitors of all ages.

Mark Thursday, October 27in your calendar for a delicious local BBQ Pork Ribs dinner in the Caf! From 5-7pm get BBQ Ribs, Smoked Gouda Mac & Cheese, Creamy Apple-Fennel Slaw, Sauteed Green Beans & Caramelized Mushrooms, Cranberry Cornbread Muffins and Apple Pie with Fresh Whipped Cream. Only a meal swipe plus $5 (could even be dining dollars or Nordicash) to get this amazing meal! Come early, supplies are limited!

Squirrel on over to the Book Shop for a Nutty Halloween party Friday, October 28 from 8:45 a.m.-4:45 p.m. There will be in-store discounts up to 25% off and a fun red, white and blue atmosphere.The Book Shop is also getting a mascot, a squirrel to be exact, and we want you to help us name it. Submit your entries at the Nutty Halloween party and vote from the top three name picks Tuesday, November 8from 8:45 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Make your vote count!

The Department of  Biomedical Sciences at Iowa State University will be on campus Wednesday, October 26 in the Dahl Centennial Union from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
 to visit with students about their 1-year, non-thesis Master of Science program. Graduates of the program may attend professional schools or continue studying in a PhD program. The core curriculum includes study of both human and animal sciences in 30 credit hours of graduate-level coursework.

Volunteer/Non-Profit Career Fair: Thursday, November 3, Dahl Centennial Union, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Looking for an internship, part-time, full-time, or volunteer position in the non-profit sector? Attend this event and network with representatives from over 25 organizations about their career opportunities. Check out the Career Center's website for a current list of participants. 

Lutheran Volunteer Corps! Spend a year making a difference with Lutheran Volunteer Corps! Thirteen Luther College alums are serving with LVC right now!Elizabeth Flomo, LVC alum & LVC Recruitment and Outreach Manager, will be at an information table outside Marty's on Tuesday, October 25 and in the Union Main Lounge on Wednesday, October 26, 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. both days.

Get out and enjoy Luther's natural areas: Participate in volunteer events including prescribed fires and buckthorn removal. Students and the wider community are encouraged to participate. Email Prof. Molly McNicoll to find out more about these opportunities. *If interested in helping on the prescribed fire crew, you need to attend a prescribed fire training session: Tuesday, October 25, 7 p.m. (Valders 362).

Center Stage Series presents Versa-Style Dance Company! 
Friday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m.in the CFL Main Hall. This hip-hop dance group from Los Angeles will perform their signature piece, Box of Hope, which uses a Motown soundtrack and vibrant choreography to deliver the message that where there are inequalities and struggle, there is also hope. The community is invited to celebrate the life of Lawrence H. Williams, retired professor of Africana studies at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 23, in the Center for Faith and Life, Recital Hall. Williams passed away July 31, 2016, in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. Wife Queen, sons Lawrence, Jr. and Martin and daughter Shari, will be in attendance at Professor Williams' Decorah memorial service to celebrate his life and legacy at Luther with the community.    

The International Students and Allies Association is hosting it's annual Fashion Show this Saturday, October 22 at 8 p.m. 
in the CFA Atrium. This year's theme "Free to Be Me" embraces cultural differences while showcasing fashion. Pre-sale tickets are $2 at the Diversity Center and $3 at the door. Tickets are limited!

"America's Challenges . . . Thoughts on Repair and Healing" - The U.S.A. is a good place to live and work, but our nation faces some definite challenges. Dean E. Johnson '69, retired Army General, Minnesota State Senator, Lutheran Pastor, and University of Minnesota Regent will offer some thoughts on issues of race, theology, economics, infrastructure, taxation, and education as our nation moves forward. Sponsored by the Center for Ethics and Public Engagement. Tuesday, October 25, 6:00-7:00 p.m., Center for Faith and Life, Recital Hall.
 
Luther has been invited to participate in the summer 2017 Davis Projects for Peace. Luther students interested in designing and implementing their own grassroots projects for peace are encouraged to submit proposals of 3 pages or less by January 15, 2017. If selected, students receive $10,000 to implement projects somewhere in the world during summer 2017. For details and application information, contact Jon Lund.

Luther Serves: On October 29, College Ministries will sponsor Luther Serves, a service project formerly known as Fall Fling. This event will send Luther students into the community to help people with yard work or indoor chores needed at this time of year. Shifts are from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Money raised will be split between the Winneshiek County flood relief effort and a memorial in honor of Bjorn Norderhaug. Please consider joining us for this event as we serve our community! 


Health Service is sponsoring an additional flu clinic on
 Monday, October 24in the Union (Williams Lounge) from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Students may charge their student account. Faculty/Staff may pay with cash or check. Cost $25 (receipt available for reimbursement).


"Transfer of Memory," a touring exhibit consisting of photographs and stories by Minnesota Holocaust survivors, will be on display, October 21-December 5, in the Center for Faith and Life Gallery. Luther will be the first Iowa site to host "Transfer of Memory." The exhibition is brought to Luther by the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas.

Artist Tiberiu Chelcea brings old and new together with his unique art featuring pages from vintage trigonometry textbooks. The "Trigonopoetry" exhibit is on display October 22 to December 11 in Preus Library. Chelcea says his work "investigates the physical and tangible beauty of mass-produced technological/scientific objects and texts, as well as their relationship with our recent past and our outdated ways of doing things.
 
Satellite Absentee Voting Station
On Tuesday, October 25 (9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.), Luther will host a satellite voting station for November 8 general election. The voting station will be located in the Dahl Centennial Union on the main floor. Precincts for which ballots will be available: Precincts 5 and 6 only. This includes Decorah Wards 4, and 5; Decorah Township in Supervisor District 3; and Canoe Township.

Voter registration forms will be available for new registrations in the county. Changes in the registration records of people who are currently registered within the county may also be made.
