Satellite Absentee Voting Station
|

On Tuesday, October 25 (9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.), Luther will host a satellite voting station for November 8 general election. The voting station will be located in the Dahl Centennial Union on the main floor. Precincts for which ballots will be available: Precincts 5 and 6 only. This includes Decorah Wards 4, and 5; Decorah Township in Supervisor District 3; and Canoe Township.
Voter registration forms will be available for new registrations in the county. Changes in the registration records of people who are currently registered within the county may also be made.

Center Stage Series presents Versa-Style Dance Company! Friday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m.in the CFL Main Hall. This hip-hop dance group from Los Angeles will perform their signature piece, Box of Hope, which uses a Motown soundtrack and vibrant choreography to deliver the message that where there are inequalities and struggle, there is also hope. Learn about hip-hop from the Versa-Style Dance Company! Versa-Style Hip-Hop Dance Culture and Technique Experience Thursday, October 20, 2:30-4:00 p.m.in Studio One, CFA 121. Through the demonstration and practice of these movements, students will gain more awareness of the true essence of hip-hop dance and its history. All are welcome to this free masterclass. Come get down, learn some foundation and add flavor to your freestyle!
The community is invited to celebrate the life of Lawrence H. Williams, retired professor of Africana studies at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 23, in the Center for Faith and Life, Recital Hall. Williams passed away July 31, 2016, in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. Wife Queen, sons Lawrence, Jr. and Martin and daughter Shari, will be in attendance at Professor Williams' Decorah memorial service to celebrate his life and legacy at Luther with the community.

Communications professor Derek Sweet will introduce the debate with a discussion of rhetoric in our public dialogue and will lead a short discussion, post-screening. The International Students and Allies Association is hosting it's annual Fashion Show this Saturday, October 22 at 8 p.m. in the CFA Atrium. This year's theme "Free to Be Me" embraces cultural differences while showcasing fashion. Pre-sale tickets are $2 at the Diversity Center and $3 at the door. Tickets are limited!
"America's Challenges . . . Thoughts on Repair and Healing" - The U.S.A. is a good place to live and work, but our nation faces some definite challenges. Dean E. Johnson '69, retired Army General, Minnesota State Senator, Lutheran Pastor, and University of Minnesota Regent will offer some thoughts on issues of race, theology, economics, infrastructure, taxation, and education as our nation moves forward. Luther has been invited to participate in the summer 2017 Davis Projects for Peace. Luther students interested in designing and implementing their own grassroots projects for peace are encouraged to submit proposals of 3 pages or less by January 15, 2017. If selected, students receive $10,000 to implement projects somewhere in the world during summer 2017. For details and application information, contact Jon Lund.
Luther Serves: On October 29, College Ministries will sponsor Luther Serves, a service project formerly known as Fall Fling. This event will send Luther students into the community to help people with yard work or indoor chores needed at this time of year. Shifts are from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Money raised will be split between the Winneshiek County flood relief effort and a memorial in honor of Bjorn Norderhaug. Please consider joining us for this event as we serve our community!
Health Service is sponsoring an additional flu clinic on Monday, October 24in the Union (Williams Lounge) from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Students may charge their student account. Faculty/Staff may pay with cash or check. Cost $25 (receipt available for reimbursement).
"Transfer of Memory," a touring exhibit consisting of photographs and stories by Minnesota Holocaust survivors, will be on display, October 21-December 5, in the Center for Faith and Life Gallery. Luther will be the first Iowa site to host "Transfer of Memory." The exhibition is brought to Luther by the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas.
Artist Tiberiu Chelcea brings old and new together with his unique art featuring pages from vintage trigonometry textbooks. The "Trigonopoetry" exhibit is on display October 22 to December 11 in Preus Library. Chelcea says his work "investigates the physical and tangible beauty of mass-produced technological/scientific objects and texts, as well as their relationship with our recent past and our outdated ways of doing things."
