ANNOUNCEMENTS
The fourth annual Faculty Research Symposium will be held onSaturday, October 8. Introductions will begin at 10 a.m. in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206 and panels will continue throughout the day in both Valders 206 and Olin 102. A detailed program is available online .

LIBRARY BOOKS ARE DUE! 
October 13 is the due date for books checked out from the main stacks by students on or before Sunday, October 9. Books may be renewed once online or by bringing them in physically to the circulation desk if you have exceeded the renewal limit. The new due date is December 9, the last day of classes this fall. Click on "Library Account" online and sign in with your NorseKey in to see what you have checked out and when it is due.

Luther College will spray the lawns with herbicides to provide well-maintained, visually attractive grounds for Luther students, employees and visitors, and to control undesirable weeds on athletic fields. Weather permitting, the date for spraying is the evening of Friday, October 14, with Saturday, October 15, and Sunday, October 16, set as back up days as needed.

McElroy Fellowships: Graduating seniors intending to pursue a Ph.D. in any field; $30,000 stipend over a three-year period; Luther may nominate only one candidate, but only 10 colleges may submit nominees for the two annual awards. Public Screening of Second Presidential Debate - Join us for the Presidential Debate!  Political Science professors Michael Engelhardt and Carly Hayden Foster will provide an introduction to the key differences between the candidates, and the most important questions to be discussed. We will then watch the debate live on the big screen, and conclude with a short, open discussion to consider what we heard. Sunday,

This Sunday, October 9, you are invited to bring a small container of water with you to add to the font during 10 a.m.worship in the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall. We will be blessing the water and each other and giving thanks for the gift of baptism. 

Featuring a repertoire of contemporary compositions, Heather Armstrong, Luther College associate professor of music, will perform an oboe recital at 4 p.m. Saturday,

, in the Noble Recital Hall in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.

Featuring the works of Iowa composer Michael Kimber, Polish violist Marcin Murawski will perform a viola recital Luther College at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 9, in the Noble Recital Hall in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Murawski, born in Poznan, Poland, in 1974, has given master viola classes and recitals throughout Europe.

SOPHOMORES: Spend your junior year in England. The application for Luther's 2017-2018 Nottingham Program is now open. Live in community with Luther students and faculty while exploring British culture and history. Students from all majors are welcome to apply. Questions? Email global@luther.edu. 

Featuring a variety of works both classic and contemporary, Jennaya Robison, Luther College assistant professor of music, will perform a vocal recital at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 9, in the Noble Recital Hall in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Robison's performance includes works by Mozart, Brahms, Gabriel Fauré, Vincenzo Bellini, and contemporary composer Peter Tiefenbach.

LINGUISTICS...Ling-whatsits? Find out at the Linguistics Open House! Join us on Sunday, October 9 from 4-6 p.m. in Preus Library, Hovde Room. Learn about Luther's Linguistics program, meet with current minors, and, oh yeah...EAT FREE PIZZA! We'll also be talking about the new and returning courses being offered over J-Term and in Spring 2017, including Introduction to Syntax and courses on Ebonics and Language Revitalization. ASIANetwork Student Paper Competition: Cash prize, registration and lodging for the 2017 annual conference, and publication in ASIANetwork Exchange: A Journal for Asian Studies in the Liberal Arts. Also accepting undergraduate student submissions for Student Poster Sessions at the 2017 Annual Conference, April 7-9, 2017, Chicago, IL. Deadline for both opportunities is November 7.
