Bjorn Norderhaug Memorial Service
A funeral service for Bjorn Norderhaug will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday,
September 24
, in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall. There will be time for visitation before the service, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Center for Faith and Life lobby.

For those who wish to make a gift in Bjorn's name, the family requests that memorial gifts be designated to Luther's Nordic Studies program. Cards and correspondence may be sent to Bjorn's parents at:

Join us at dark to honor Bjorn. Inter-Greek Council will be hosting a short floral and message tribute for Bjorn Norderhaug Friday, September 23 in the Center for the Arts Atrium at 9:30 p.m. All students are welcome to attend.




Student Senate and Preus Library are bringing the New York Times online to campus. September 26-30 will be New York Times Week! Nicole Rome will be on campus talking about the new subscription coming to students. She will be in the Union Tuesday, September 27 from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., come get a SWAG BAG! She will also be in the Preus Library, Hovde Room from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. with snacks to answer any questions.

The Visual and Performing Arts department presents Luther class of 1991 alumnus Patrick M. Strain's original play "Stained Glass" at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 1 in Storre Theatre. "Stained Glass" offers a view of America set squarely in the intersection of religion and sexuality. There is no charge for admission, but tickets are required. The Alumni Office is seeking students to work (paid position) for Homecoming Registration. Help is needed in two hour increments on Friday, September 30 from 11:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and on Saturday, October 1 from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Please stop over to Loyalty Hall for more information and to sign up.

 KWLC will be featuring Jones Distinguished Professor of English Nancy K. Barry in a new weekly radio show entitled The Naked Page: "Car Talk" for Writers.  Professor Barry welcomes calls from listeners as she discusses the art of writing with insight and panache.  Join her Sunday evenings from 7-8 p.m. on KWLC 1240 AM or streaming at kwlc.luther.edu.
 
Need some greenery to spruce up your room or office? The Luther College Grounds Crew and the Center for Sustainable Communities are excited to announce the annual Plant Giveaway Event on Tuesday, September 27. Students, faculty and staff who come to the Valders Greenhouse from 9:40 a.m.-10:50 a.m. will be able to pick up a free potted plant. All plants have been grown from clippings of plants already on campus.

In September, Luther College's Board of Regents unanimously approved neuroscience as the newest major in the college's curriculum. Neuroscience, the interdisciplinary study of how the nervous system functions to control every aspect of humanness, covers everything from basic processes like regulating body temperature to more complex functions like movement, perception, behavior, emotion, desires and memory.

RERUNS
Best-selling nonfiction author Erik Larson will deliver the fall 2016 Luther College Distinguished Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 23, in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall. The New York Times described Larson as "one of the modern masters of popular narrative non-fiction... adept at rescuing weird and wonderful Gothic tales from the shadows of history". Larson's talk will be followed by a book signing and reception in the CFL lobby.
 
As part of the Center Stage Series, one lucky A Capella group has the chance to perform as the opening act for Vocalosity on October 7. Submission deadline is September 26. Luther College is hosting a Blood Drive in Brunsdale Lounge between Miller and Deiseth Hall. Come one, come ALL, on September 26 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and September 27 from 12:00-6:00 p.m.! The Luther College Piano Quartet will present a recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, September 25 in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. The Luther College Piano Quartet features Igor Kalnin, violin; Spencer Martin, viola; Philip Borter, cello; and Miko Kominami, piano. The recital will feature works by Mozart, Brahms and Richard Strauss.
 
The Luther College Chapter of Pi Beta Kappa is hosting a Homecoming Symposium at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, October 1, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall.  Gracia Grindal, Professor Emerita of Rhetoric at Luther Seminary, will present "Ironies and Surprises: The Legacies of Linka Preus and Elisabeth Koren."  Grindal's new book, Unstoppable: The Norwegian Pioneers Educate their Daughters, relies heavily on sources related to Linka Preus and Elisabeth Koren in the Luther College Archives. The Symposium, with a reception to follow, is open to all.
 
Stop in the Book Shop and check out our wall of the Luther Writers Festival novels and purchase a few before the event. There will be author signings by almost all the authors attending the Festival from 10:20 a.m.-1:15 p.m.on Saturday, September 24. Purchase your tickets for the festival and find out more events the Book Shop will be hosting this weekend.

Luther College PALS is looking for more 'Bigs' to join their program!PALS is a community-oriented organization which matches college students with elementary age children in a mentoring relationship.
