ANNOUNCEMENTS
All students, faculty, staff, and community members are encouraged to attend the 2016 Student Research Symposium this Friday, May 6. The Symposium begins at 9:00 am with a celebration in the CFL featuring research reflections by two outstanding seniors. The rest of the day offers multiple sessions of talks, posters, and performances by top students from majors across the college. Senior Recognition Convocation: 9:40 a.m.
, Tuesday, May 10, CFL Main Hall. Celebration honoring all members of the class of 2016, and recognizing those who have earned Latin honors, those elected to Phi Beta Kappa and honor societies in their major fields, those who received post-graduate awards, and academic all-conference athletes. Professor Jessica Paul, professor of music, will share reflections. The printed program will also contain senior paper/project titles. Following convocation, a group photo of the Class of 2016 will be taken.

Luther College will host an evening of new music composed by members of Luther's composition studio. Out of the 18 student composers in this semester's composition studio, five students have been selected to present their pieces at 9 p.m. Monday, May 9, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Music Hall. Works to be performed include solo, chamber and electronic music with video.

"Predisposition", a play about the bonds of family suffering during times of tension and hardship, written by senior Emma Cassabaum, directed by senior Maggie Sulentic, will be presented at
7:30 p.m. May 7-8 in the Storre Theater. The performance, co-produced by the two seniors will be performed as part of the Luther College Dance and Theater Senior Projects. For more information about the play, visit luther.edu/events.

Luther Gardens Tomato Seedling Sale! Getting ready to start your summer garden? Luther Gardens is selling tomato seedlings in the Valders Greenhouse May 10 from 12:00-1:00 pm and May 11 from 5:00-5:30 p.m. Get a four pack for $2 or larger, single plants for $1.50. Whether you're interested in growing slicers, cherry or grape tomatoes, we have ten different varieties in various sizes and colors. Cash or check only. Keep the Conversation Going: What does 'Safe Space' Mean for Us? Tuesday, May 3 at 5:15 p.m. in Olin Hall 102. Many campuses and communities are involved in discussions about "safe space," so what does this idea mean for the Luther and Decorah communities? Where does the idea of safe space come from? How does it shape the conversations we can have? These questions and more will be explored in this conversation meant to model good disagreement, like the "truth seeking" we recently saw between Cornel West and Robert George.

Interested in learning about how cooperatives help build a sustainable society? Come to the joint ECO/Aynah meeting at 7:00 on Tuesday, May 3 in Sustainability House! Aynah co-director Jason Rodney will be visiting from the Twin Cities to lead the workshop.

Working on a paper? Doing some research? Wondering how to keep track of your sources, create a bibliography and footnotes? Zotero (free application) helps you collect, manage, and cite your sources. Bring your laptop to our workshop and learn how to download Zotero and set it up to manage your resources (available for PCs and MACs).

The Visual & Performing Arts Department is looking for participants to help present the piece "What is Consent?" for first-year orientation in the fall of 2016. Break Free Decorah will host a solar workshop and expo with the help of the Winneshiek Energy District May 5 in Valders 206 at 6:30 p.m.; May 7 at the Winneshiek Farmer's Market, Break Free Decorah will host an electric car show (10 a.m.-12 p.m.), a local foods booth, a bicycle blender, solar oven exhibit, mechanical and solar powered lawn mowers, a tiny house informational booth and more! Join us May 7, 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
