Solar array dedication on Earth Day, April 22
Luther will celebrate Earth Day by dedicating three solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays, capable of producing 820 kW of electricity. With this additional capacity, the college once again hosts the most solar PV capacity in the state of Iowa at 1,100 kW. Luther students, faculty, staff and members of the community are invited to attend a dedication ceremony and celebration at 4 p.m. Friday, April 22, at the solar field site on Pole Line Road. Attendees are encouraged to walk or take a shuttle bus to the solar field site. Shuttles will leave from both the municipal swimming pool lot and the Union at 3:25 p.m.and 3:40 p.m. In the event of heavy rain, the reception will be held in Peace Dining Room/Hammarskjold Lounge.

"Good Grief" - Students who have experienced the loss of a loved one are invited to join College Ministries and Counseling Service for the final gathering of the semester. Luther College's Jazz Orchestra will perform a tour homecoming concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. The performance concludes the Jazz Orchestra's Jazz Appreciation Month tour of the Upper Midwest.
With more than 100 brass performers, Luther College's brass ensembles will present a concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall.Luther's Trumpet Ensemble, Horn Ensemble, Trombone Choir, Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble, and combined Brass Choir will perform both modern and classical works, including arrangements and original compositions for brass.
Senior Paper ice cream at Preus Library: On Wednesday, April 27, delicious ice cream will be available at the library entrance from 4:30 to 5:15 for students who have completed their senior papers. Those who attend will also be eligible for giveaway prizes.
The Spring Open Chess Tournament will be hosted at Marty's on April 29 from 7:00-11:00 p.m. The winner walks away with a chess board and a chess medal. The other finalist gets a chess medal. The Tau Delta Gamma sorority will be hosting our annual Bowling For Boobies event on May 5, from 6:00-11:00 pm at Oneota Lanes. For $5.00 each participant will receive one game, bowling shoes, a chance to win one of many giveaways, and pizza while supplies last! All proceeds will be donated to the Winneshiek County Celebration of Life.
Come join SAC and special guest, Ken Barr Jr, the Director of Student Strengths Development at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, in a dynamic lecture on how to thrive with your strengths. The lecture will be held on Tuesday, April 26 in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206 at 7:30 p.m. followed by a reception in Valders Concourse at 8:45 p.m. There will be food, conversation, and Luther's first ever "Strengths Poster Gallery" viewing (posters are by Luther students). Come get delicious BBQ pork ribs, blackened shrimp skewers, bacon braised kale, potato salad, and LC Hawaiian rolls on Friday, April 29 in the Cafeteria from 5-7:30 p.m.. All this can be yours for a meal swipe plus $5 (can be Dining Dollars).

Three Luther College faculty members paired with three students from the college's ballroom dance team go head to head in the new competition "Dancing with the Luther Stars." Based on the popular ABC television show, the event brings excitement and some friendly rivalry to the Luther campus at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 23, in the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall. Tickets are on sale for $5 in the Ticket Office. Free speech and civil disagreements are electric topics on college campuses. Why should I listen to people I disagree with? What if the beliefs of others are harmful? How do I, personally, generate space for people I actively disagree with to share their thoughts without fear of resentment, rejection, or condemnation? Moreover, why should I? Join Luther faculty, staff, and students, for a conversation about how to navigate these struggles within the Luther Community on Thursday, April 28 at 6:00 p.m. in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206.
A new bicycle pump has been installed at Luther! Located outside of Preus Library by the Bike Share bicycles, the fixit station and bicycle pump is easily accessible for the entire Luther community. To reduce damages to your bike, please make sure that there is enough air in its tires before riding. Enjoy the spring weather and keep pedaling!
Brianna Shelly, a senior from Scottsdale, Arizona, is the 2015-16 recipient of the Alan R. and Sally J. Brudos Family Opera Prize. As part of the award Shelly will perform a recital at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 23, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. The prize, a $5,000 cash award, was established and is funded by a gift from Alan R. and Sally J. Brudos of Atherton, California.
The Cafeteria to Community program is looking for volunteers for a few shifts this spring to package excess food from the cafeteria to be delivered to the First Lutheran Food Pantry. Packing shifts are on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. This is a great study break and an awesome way to give back to the community! Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Rebates are Back! Eat well and support local farmers! Employee households are eligible to receive up to $100 towards the purchase of a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) share in 2016. Cantorei and the Luther Ringers will perform a spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, in the Noble Recital Hall in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Cantorei, will perform "Why We Sing," with selections from a wide variety of genres including African processionals, spirituals and vocal jazz. Luther Ringers will perform Processional in F, "Hyfrydol," a hymn with audience participation; "Pleiades" from Cluster of Stars; "Let It Go; "In Memoriam" and "Now the Green Blade Riseth" .
