Grad Finale will be held Tuesday, March 15, and Wednesday, March 16, from 9:30-3:30 p.m.
in the Dahl Centennial Union. The Ticket Office, Alumni Office, Registrar Office, Development Office, Career Center, Assessment Office, Jostens, and the Book Shop will be in attendance helping seniors get ready for graduation. Pick up your cap and gown, order your class ring, purchase discounted diploma frames, vote for your outstanding senior classmate, and much more. Congratulations class of 2016!

Since 1956, the Phi Beta Kappa Society's Visiting Scholar Program has offered undergraduates the opportunity to spend time with some of America's most distinguished scholars. Sociocultural anthropologist Carol Greenhouse, a 2015-16 Visiting Scholar, will present her lecture Citizens United/Citizens Divided: A Case Study in the Anthropology of Law at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall.

Then study how the school situation in Hawaii reflects the challenges of education in the United States as a whole. You do not need to be an education major to take this course. There will be an informational meeting regarding the January 2017 Paideia 450: Making Decisions for U.S. Schools the case in Hawaii on March 17 at 9 pmin Koren 217. See you there.
 
Preus Library's Innovative Services program is seeking to hire a student library assistant to work in marketing and community engagement. Emphasis will be on the creation of graphic design works for advertising and display, work in the library's social media platforms, and assistance in market research and special events. Luther College Habitat for Humanity has room for a few more students on its Spring Break trip to Dade City, FL. The $490 cost includes motor-coach, housing, required Habitat donation, and most food. We will include some sightseeing, including beach time, while we are there. We will be returning to Decorah on Friday, March 25 so students can go home for Easter. Study Abroad Symposium - This event is for recently accepted study abroad students, students interested in studying abroad in the future and for returning students. We will have snacks and discussion about what to expect in each area of the world and discussion about how to get the most of your experience and money! Come find us in Hovde Room, Preus Library, Saturday March 12 from 3:00-5:00 p.m.

Around the world, there are a myriad of different ideas of what is empowering for women. Paola Canova will address one of these ideas in a lecture on the monetization of Paraguayan women's sexuality at
4 p.m.
 Tuesday, March 15, in the Olin Building, Room 102. The lecture is titled Empowerment Lessons from the Margins: An Examination of Ayoreo Sexuality in Paraguay's Chaco Region.

The Luther College Composition Studio will present A Night in the Planetarium, a concert of new electronic music at 9 and 10 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, in the Emil C. Miller Planetarium in the Valders Hall of Science. A Night in the Planetarium features music by 12 student composers, all of whom are studying electronic music this semester with Brooke Joyce.

Luther professor Laura Peterson will discuss what living in the Anthropocene means in both the scientific community and among the broader public in her Paideia Text and Issues Lecture Back to the Future: Understanding the Anthropocene, which will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, in the Recital Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. A reception will follow in Qualley Lounge.

Luther College's Visual and Performing Arts department presents The Invitation Game March 10-12 in the Jewel Theatre in the Center for the Arts. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10,
5 p.m. 
Friday, March 11, and 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12. 
 
RERUNS
The residence halls will close for spring break at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18 and will reopen at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 27.Miller, Dieseth, College Apartments, Baker Village, and all college-owned houses are the only buildings open for break housing.  Student IDs will be deactivated and access will be denied to all closed buildings.Students needing to be on campus must stay in one of the open buildings and register with Residence Life by March 16.

The Honors Advisory Committee is pleased to announce this year's Luther College Peace Scholars. Congratulations to Betsy Fawcett, a junior majoring in political science and psychology, and Nathan Campbell, a sophomore majoring in chemistry with a minor in German, who will spend 7 weeks this summer with other Peace Scholars from Augsburg, Augustana (Sioux Falls), Concordia (Moorhead), Pacific Lutheran, and St. Olaf studying peace and conflict resolution in Lillehammer and Oslo, Norway.

Krahn Family Student Life Service Award -- Nominations for this award must be current Sophomore and Junior students who have demonstrated a strong contribution to campus life in a way that embraces the spirit and mission of Luther College. Any student, faculty, or staff member may nominate a student. This award is designed to recognize a student who makes a positive impact to student life. The $1,000 award is expected to be over and above any financial assistance a student receives. The nomination form can be found here.
 
Kuh Family "Positively Luther" Award -- This award is given each year to a student whose character, leadership, and participation in co-curricular and other educationally purposeful activities enhance the quality of campus life. The recipient must be in good academic standing with a demonstrated need for financial assistance. This $5,000 award is expected to be over and above the financial aid package offered by the College. Students may apply for this award through March 31.

McElroy Student/Faculty Research Projects:  The Iowa College Foundation announces its call for proposals for student/faculty research projects for 2016-17.  Student participants must be juniors or seniors in the fall of 2016.  Applications require dual authorship by the proposing student, or team of students, and a sponsoring faculty member.  Funds may be used to support all expenses of a credible research project except faculty stipends.  Maximum award is $2,000.  Luther is eligible to submit up to four proposals.  Internal deadline for proposals is April 11.  Forms are available in the Dean's Office (Union 262) or email [email protected].
