ANNOUNCEMENTS

ALL-COLLEGE CONVOCATION - One of the University of Iowa's most popular teachers, David Gould, will speak at opening convocation Thursday, February 4, at 9:40 in the Center for Faith and Life. His "Life Design" course is the basis for his convocation address, "Play, Passion, and Purpose: A New Arc for Education." All students are encouraged to attend.

The Center Stage Series is excited to kick off the spring season with Imani Winds on Saturday, February 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the CFL. This premier wind quintet has carved out a distinct presence in the classical music world with its high-spirited playing. Come hear their special program Portraits of Langston. Tickets are free with CAF, $24 without. To purchase tickets, visit the box office or go online to tickets.luther.edu.

The Asian Student Association will host an Asian Panel on Tuesday, February 9 from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. in Marty's.  The panel will consist of faculty and students recently returning from Asia. Please join us as we discuss the stereotypes of socioeconomic status, religion, and politics that are associated with Asia.  
 
Explicit Improvisation: A Music & Movement Event -- An improvised performance, featuring Jon Ailabouni (trumpet), Jane Hawley (dance), JJ Kaufmann (piano), and Andrea Vazquez Aguirre (dance). This quartet composes through a dialogue of music and dance. Witness movement and sound informing, influencing, and interacting in the hands of four artists striving for fearless clarity.
 
The Luther Alumni Magazine
seeks student photos from study away experiences spring 2015 through J-term 2016. All who send photos will be entered in a drawing for a $50 Luther gift card. Submit up to 6 photos illustrating learning and travel experiences. A selection of photos will appear in this spring's magazine. Tell us why you took each photo, what program you were on, and your class year. Send photos by March 1 to magazine@luther.edu.

Nordic Choir will perform a West Coast tour homecoming concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 4, in the CFL Main Hall.
The choir's 2016 tour program includes "Serenity" by Ola Gjeilo, "Wake, Awake" by F. Melius Christiansen, "Only in Sleep" by Eriks Esenvalds, as well as hymn arrangements, spirituals and the traditional Nordic Choir closing piece, "O Lord God" by Pavel Chesnokov. 

The Luther College Symphony Orchestra will perform at 4 and 7 p.m. Sunday, February 7, in the Center for Faith and Life. A free will offering will be taken. The orchestra will perform "Petite Suite" by Claude Debussy, "Polovtsian Dances" from the opera "Prince Igor" by Alexander Borodin and "Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 88" by Antonín Dvořák. The concert is part of Symphony Orchestra's 2016 tour of the Upper Midwest.

Are you interested in being a Resident Assistant? Residence Life is beginning the staff selection process for 2016-2017! Anyone interested in applying for a Resident Assistant position must attend one mandatory information session. The information sessions will be held: Sunday, February 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Valders 262; Tuesday, February 9 at 9:40 a.m. in Valders 206; Tuesday, February 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Valders 262. All students living on campus are automatically on a full board meal plan which is 19 meals per week + $200 dining dollars at the beginning of each semester. If full board is not preferred, you have until February 12 to switch to an alternative meal plan: 14 meals/week + $250 dining dollars; 225 meals/semester + $200 dining dollars; 175 meals/semester + $325 dining dollars; or 120 meals/semester + $600 dining dollars. Luther Sustainability conducted "Weigh the Waste" from January 12-15 in the cafeteria. Over four days, 831 plates were collected and analyzed to raise awareness about composting and food waste on campus. On average, 0.2 pounds of food is left on plates after a meal. 70 percent of waste collected was compostable. Please make sure to sort your food before placing your plates onto the dish return tray.


The Iowa Watercolor Society Annual Traveling Show will be on display February 5-March 31 in the Center for Faith and Life. Internationally known artist and architectural illustrator Iain Steward juried and judged the 2015 annual Iowa Watercolor Society competition held in Perry, Iowa. Chosen from over 140 entries, the traveling show is a representation of twenty-five Iowa artists who were finalists in the competition. 
 

RERUNS
 SAC Concert: Panic! At the Disco - Saturday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Regents Center. Student tickets go on sale Thursday, February 11 at the Ticket Office in the Center for Faith and Life. Public tickets sales begin Thursday, February 18. Tickets are free with the Co-Curricular Activities Fee (CAF) or $40 without.

DATA CULTURE networking series (February 11) - Channel your research interests into viable tech and information careers. Library and Information Services and the Career Center have collaborated to bring speakers who will discuss their innovative work as teachers, designers, archivists, and administrators. Learn about emerging vocational opportunities and connect with professionals and grad school faculty. Meal at 6:00 p.m. followed by 7:30 p.m.public presentations.
