ANNOUNCEMENTS

Members of the Luther Community,

We have been closely following the developments regarding safety concerns associated with hover boards. Recent information from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has revealed that the batteries in these devices are dangerous and prone to exploding and combusting, creating a personal safety and fire risk. These devices are especially dangerous when they are recharging. The NFPA issued fire warnings and stated some hover board fires involved a lithium-ion battery or charger that leaked fluids, was prone to excessive heat and produced odors, sparks and smoke.

In response to these safety concerns, effective immediately, the use, possession, or storage of hover boards and similar devices, including Swagways, IO Hawks, and Skywalkers, is prohibited on campus.

Thank you for your consideration and cooperation.

Corey Landstrom, Vice President and Dean for Student Life
Eric Runestad, Vice President for Finance and Administration
