ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Luther College Concert Band will perform a fall concert at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, in the Main Hall of the Center of Faith and Life. Concert Band will perform "A Weekend in New York" by Philip Sparke, "Dance of the Jesters" by Peter Tchaikovsky, "Four Scottish Dances" by Malcolm Arnold and "Everything Beautiful" by Samuel Hazo.

The SAC Concerts Committee has a list of give options for the spring concert this year. Now it's up to Luther students to vote for who you would like to see come! This poll will close Wednesday, November 18 at 12:00 noon. Click here or go to the SAC  Facebook page to vote before the deadline! 

LASO (Luther Athletes Serving Others) is sponsoring a Thanksgiving Food Drive from
November 17-24. Food donations can be dropped off in a box labeled "LASO Food Drive" in the north and south foyers of the Regents Center. The finale of the food drive will be at the men's and women's basketball games on Tuesday, November 24. We invite faculty and staff to come out and give to a good cause while cheering on the Norse!

Peace Scholar Presentation: Thursday, November 19 at 4:30 p.m. students Emily Holm and Katie Kovacovich will be sharing about their summer abroad in Norway through the Peace Scholar Program. Students interested in learning more about this 7 seven week program in peace studies and dialogue facilitation are encouraged to attend.

The International Students' and Allies Association invites you to participate in this year's International Education Week, from November 17-21. This is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits and importance of diversity and promote programs that prepare both Americans and International students for a global environment. Join ISAA to connect with other Cultures on Campus as we aim to learn how to breach cultures differences that exist among us. 
 
The Hunting Ground: As part of an ongoing effort to increase awareness of sexual assault, Norse Against Sexual Assault will be hosting a live-streaming of the documentary "The Hunting Ground," a film about the institutional cover-ups of rape on college campuses. The viewing will take place in Olin 102 at 8:00 p.m.on Thursday, November 19. A discussion with follow the film.

Students in the fall 2015 opera workshop course will present "A Rendezvous in Old Germany" at 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 20 and 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 21, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. The program features opera scenes from works including Beethoven's "Fidelio," Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro," Strauss' "Die Fledermaus," and Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel." 
 
Recruiters from A Christian Ministry in the National Parks will be outside of Marty's from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17 to visit with students about working at one of America's most gorgeous places for the summer. Volunteers earn a full-time income by working for the park's private concessionaires as housekeepers, cashiers, wait staff, and other seasonal positions.
 
Luther College has cut its emissions of greenhouse gases in half since 2004 while expanding the physical footprint of the college. A significant amount of that expansion includes the construction of our state of the art science building. Luther has reduced energy consumption per square foot by 34.5 percent in this time frame. This drastic reduction in energy intensity has come about through comprehensive campus plans to incorporate energy efficiency and renewable energy.

RERUNS
Sandy Summers, RN, MSN, MPH, will present the lecture, "Saving Lives: Why the Media's Portrayal of Nursing Puts Us All at Risk," on Thursday, November 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. Summers' presentation promises to be provocative and thought provoking and will utilize popular media clips to illustrate her points about damaging media depictions of nurses; and healthcare in the United States.
 
The Chamber Orchestra will perform in concert at 4 p.m. Saturday, November 21, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. The Chamber Orchestra will perform Mozart's "Overture to Idomeneo," and Haydn's "Symphony No. 101 in D major" and will also perform Bach's "Concerto for Violin in A minor, BWV 1041," featuring Dr. Igor Kalnin, Luther visiting assistant professor of music, on violin.
 
Featuring works of composers from France, America and Austria, the Luther College Philharmonia will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, in the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall. Philharmonia will perform "Masques et Bergamasques" by Gabriel Fauré, an eclectic suite of shorter works by Aaron Copland and two works by Haydn.
 
The Luther College Center for Sustainable Communities and the Winneshiek Energy District will co-host a workshop on third-party power purchase agreements for non-profit entities from noon-4 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, in the Dahl Centennial Union. 
 
LCDM is hosting a Donut Dash Fun Run on November 21. A little over a mile, this race combines a competitive race with donuts, every donut you eat during the race takes seconds off of your time! LCDM is an organization that raises money for the Children's Miracle Network Hospital in Iowa City. Registration is $10 and begins at 9:00 am in the parking lot next to the Decorah pool. Forms are on our website!

"Good Grief":  Students who have experienced the loss of a loved one are invited to join College Ministries and Counseling Service for a light supper and conversation on Thursday, November 19 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in Nansen Room, Dahl Centennial Union.  Call Mary at 563-387-1375 with questions.
 
SAC Cinema is bringing Trainwreck to campus on November 19th!  Doors will be opening at 7:30 and the showing begins at 8:00 p.m. The cost is free with CAF and $2 without. Free popcorn while supplies last! ATTENTION: This film is rated R for strong sexual content, nudity, language and some drug use. Viewer discretion is advised.
 
Six Appeal will be performing Friday November 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Marty's. Six Appeal Vocal Band is one of the busiest touring a cappella ensembles in the country. From coast to coast, the group has become known for their vivid musical style, unmatched energy, and playful charm. If you can imagine it, they can sing it. Tickets are free with CAF, $8 without. Sponsored by SAC Spotlight.
 
The next Strengths Sunday Workshop will be held on November 22 from 2-5 p.m. in Olin Hall. Students will take the StrengthsFinder Assessment and participate in the Strengths-Based Education Workshop. This is an excellent opportunity for seniors, juniors and sophomores to participate in Strengths if they have not already engaged through a class, team, or group during their time at Luther. WINTER BIKE STORAGE is on November 19 and 20 from 3-6 p.m. Please bring your bike to Ashmore-Jewell Barn (Red Barn out by Baker) to have it placed in a secure, dry storage by college personnel for the winter. Bikes must be registered to be placed in storage, registration is available at the barn. Bike storage is FREE for all Luther students.
 
Children's bargain book blowout -- The Luther Book Shop is holding our annual children's bargain book sale. No books are priced over $5.99. A great selection, including holiday titles, is offered. The sale continues while supplies last.

The University of Iowa is experiencing a large number of mumps cases on their campus. Health officials are asking that with the holidays fast approaching, students need to be aware of this risk as you may encounter individuals from other campuses. If you have not received the required 2 DOSES of MMR ( Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine please do so at your earliest convenience either at Health Service or when you return home over break.
