STUDY IN ENGLAND NEXT YEAR. Luther's Nottingham Program, currently in its 44th year, is open to students who will have junior status during the 2016-17 academic year; financial aid is available.  Applications are due

Filmmakers and visual artists, David and Hi-Jin Kang Hodge will give the 2015 Oen Fellows lecture at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, in the Recital Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. The lecture, titled "Impermanence: The Time of Man," is also part of the 2015-16 Religion Forum series and the Paideia Text and Issues Lecture series.  A reception will follow in Qualley Lounge.

Luther College will host the second annual Dorian Community College Choral Invitational on Wednesday, October 21, in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Choirs and individual students from area community colleges will participate in a full day of activities to experience music at Luther. Attend the 1-2 p.m. rehearsal in the Noble Recital Hall to hear all participants perform. 

"Being Mortal" panel discussion, Thursday, October 22 at 6:30 p.m. in Olin 102. This is an All Community Reads presentation to discuss the book, Being Mortal by Dr. Atul Gawande, about end-of-life care and the difficult choices between more medical intervention vs. hospice care and quality of life. Craig Mosher will lead a panel including two physicians (Dan Mansfield & Deb Lathrop), another social worker (Elizabeth Kane), and pastor Laura Arnold.

Nordic Choir released their new album, "Spirit, Moving Over Chaos," on Friday, October 16. The title track is an evocative piece of aleatoric music - where an element of the work is left to chance through the determination of the performers. The album, featuring musical selections from the choir's 2014-15 tours, is available for purchase in the Book Shop.

Luther students are invited to submit abstracts for the 2016 National Conference on Undergraduate Research, to be heldApril 7-9, 2016 at University of North Carolina- Asheville.  Applications for on-campus selection process are due by 5:00 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2015, at https://www.luther.edu/academics/dean/honors/grants/NCUR/.

Flu shot vaccine available now at Health Service anytime during office hours M-F 8:00-12:00 and 1:00-4:30 p.m Additional Flu Clinic times are Tuesday, October 20in the Regents Center Classroom 221 from 2:30-4:30 and Friday, November 13from 9-11:30 a.m.in the Union. Cost is 25.00 (staff/faculty cash or check). Students may charge student account.

COLORING PAGE ART CONTEST - Counseling Service is accepting submissions for a coloring page art contest. All Luther Students are eligible to submit a design. Submissions can be entered October 19-November 6. Prizes awarded to Top 3 submissions with most votes. The Luther College Book Shop will host book-signing sessions Saturday, October 17
, as part of Luther's homecoming weekend of events. Six members of the Luther community including Doug Eckheart, Luther professor emeritus of art; Allisa (Vanderpool) Vermillion, class of 1990; Chris Norton, class of 2014; Robert Shedinger, Luther professor of religion; Todd Green, Luther associate professor of religion; and Tabita Green, Luther director of web content; will sign copies of their books at the Book Shop.

Featuring the college's premiere touring ensembles, the Luther College Homecoming Concert is 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 18, in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall. The concert includes performances by the Luther Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Baldwin; Concert Band, conducted by Joan deAlbuquerque; and Nordic Choir, conducted by Allen Hightower. 
 
Luther College Jazz Band and Jazz Orchestra will perform at 8:30 p.m. Friday, October 16, in Marty's in the Dahl Centennial Union on Luther's campus. The presentation of swinging arrangements from the 1940's, 50's, 60's and 70's will have audiences heading for the dance floor.

Inspired in part by the history, culture and geography of South Africa, Luther College alumni siblings Elsa (Otte) Hammond, Paul Otte and Daniel Otte will present a mixed-media exhibit October 16 - December 6 in the upper level lobby of the Center for Faith and Life. A reception for the artists will be held 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, October 17.
