The Book Shop will begin textbook returns to wholesalers and publishers the first week in October. If you have not purchased all of your course materials for this term, please be sure to do this soon. Thank you.

A shuttle will drive students from the Union to downtown Decorah and Walmart this Wednesday at 7:30 PM. Meet in the Student Organizational Suite 10 minutes before departure. Advanced sign up using the online form is highly recommended. Sign up is encouraged, though not required.

Performing with guest artists John Hines and Dmitri Vorobiev from the University of Northern Iowa
, Jacob Lassetter, Karen Kanakis and Jessica Paul will perform a recital at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 3, in the Noble Recital Hall in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.

Luther College's music department will host the Iowa Connection Trio in a guest recital at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 4, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. The Iowa Connection Trio consists of Xiao Hu, Luther College associate professor of music, piano, and Amanda McCandless, clarinet, and Yu-Ting Tina Su, horn, both from the University of Northern Iowa.

The Luther College Piano Quartet will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, October 4, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. The program includes late 19th and early 20th century piano quartets from Spain, the Czech Republic and France by composers Joaquin Turina, Josef Suk, and Gabriel Fauré.

Luther College's "Music in the Shape of a Pear" event features a diverse collection of new music at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 4, in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music Recital Hall. The recital features two world premieres by Decorah native Philip Wharton and Luther alumnus Steve Smith, along with works by Gary Schocker, Greg Patillo, Luiz Bonfá, Robert Dick, Jennifer Higdon, and Oistein Sommerfeldt.
 
Thanks to a generous leadership gift from Kent '57 and Mitzi Evenstad of Monona, Wisconsin, Luther has purchased an indoor LED video display board and statistic panels with electronic captions to enhance the existing scoreboard in the Regents Center gymnasium.
The Norse Athletic Association provided additional funding support. The video display and statistic boards were installed in early September, and will be phased into use over the next year.  
 
The Center for Sustainable Communities is excited to host the first Bike to the Farm Potluck dinner on Saturday, October 3rd. Students, faculty, and staff and their families are invited to join in for an evening of food, fellowship, and learning about Luther's sustainable food systems and initiatives. Please RSVP by filling out this Google form no later than Friday, October 2nd.

President Carlson has appointed the following individuals to the College Ministries Call Committee:  Andrew Last (chair), Gifty Arthur '17, Carter Johnson '16, Martin Klammer, Kristin Swanson, Madeline Jungbauer, Ryan Gjerde, and Karen Martin-Schramm. Mike Blair will serve as an ex-officio member.

MKTO tickets will go on-sale Tuesday, September 29th! Make sure you get your ticket either outside of Nordic Brew while the SAC Concerts Committee is tabling or at the Ticket Office. Tickets will go on-sale to the public Tuesday, October 6th!

Tickets go on sale online October 1 for all faculty, staff and students for Christmas at Luther 2015. If you have not yet set up your online ticketing account, please contact the Ticket Office at x1357. Tickets are available for all faculty/staff and students until October 15 when they go on sale to all Current Parents, Alumni, and Friends of Luther.
 
NOTTINGHAM INFORMATIONAL MEETING:  Sophomores interested in learning more about Luther's year-long study abroad program in Nottingham, England, are invited to attend a meeting on Tuesday, September 29, 7:30 pm in the Hovde Room, Preus Library.  Former Nottingham Program participants, past directors, and the 2016-17 directors, Karen and Jim Martin-Schramm, will be present to share information and answer questions.

Flu vaccine is available at Health Service anytime during office hours 8-4:30 M-F. Additional flu clinics will be held Friday, October 2, 9-11:30 a.m. at Health Service; Monday October 5, 2-4 p.m. in the UnionTuesday, October 20, 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the Regents Center.  Cost: $25.00 (students may have applied to Student Account), faculty & staff should pay with cash or check.

Luther College PALS is extending their application deadline for kids in grades K-6! The new due date is October 2nd!

Luther College Student Activities Council invites everyone to this year's SAC Flamingo Ball. Come celebrate and dance to the sounds of band The Sevilles at 9 p.m. Homecoming Saturday, October 17, in the Regents Center. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at tickets.luther.edu.

McElroy Fellowships:  Graduating seniors intending to pursue a Ph.D. in any field; $30,000 stipend over a three-year period; Luther may nominate only one candidate, but only 10 colleges may submit nominees for the two annual awards.
