Then YOU should come to the Performing Arts Committee meeting on Wednesday, September 23, at 6 p.m. in Qualley Lounge in the CFL! We will be explaining, and showing you, how we make all the amazing shows possible from lights and sound to costumes and catwalks!

Treats and treasure hunt at Preus Library. This Family Weekend, venture into the library to participate in a Norse-themed treasure hunt and win a pair of Luther earbuds. Enjoy delicious treats too! The treasure hunt commences at 2:30 on Saturday afternoon, September 26.

An adventure race, sponsored by Luther College's Mu Theta chapter of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity and the Nena Amundson Lifetime Wellness Program, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 26. The race begins at the Regents Center Circle Drive on Luther's lower campus.The adventure race consists of a three-mile canoe/kayak leg, a nine-mile bike ride and a three-mile run through the scenic city of Decorah.
 
Luther College's Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Band will perform as part of Luther's 2015 Family Weekend festivities at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, September 26, in Marty's located in the Dahl Centennial Union on the Luther campus. The program will explore swing music from the 1940s, 50s and 60s and will featurecompositions by Jerome Kern, Mercer Ellington, Sammy Nestico, Lee Morgan, and Benny Golson.
 
Spanish Talent Show (Tuesday November 10@7:00 p.m.Marty's) seeking performers with various talents. Deadline to register is October 25th. If you want to join the Spanish Talent Show please submit a brief description of your performance  (singing, dancing, playing a musical piece, cooking, acting, parodies, etc). All performances need to be related to Spanish Language or Spanish/Latino culture. Please Include the names and emails of all participants. For more details please contact Professor Anna De Santis 

Family Weekend is the perfect opportunity for families to experience the Luther College community with their Luther student. Luther College's music department will present an evening of choral and instrumental music at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 26, as part of Family Weekend activities. The concert will be performed in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. Seven ensembles will perform, including Aurora, Cantorei, Cathedral Choir, Collegiate Chorale, Norsemen, Wind and Percussion Ensemble and Varsity Band. 
 
The Luther College Concert Band and Jazz Orchestra will perform in concert at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, September 26, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life as part of Family Weekend. Joan deAlbuquerque, director of bands and associate professor of music, directs the Concert Band and Juan Tony Guzm�n, director of the jazz program and professor of music, directs the Jazz Orchestra. 
 
KWLC radio station will host an afternoon of games, snacks, and live music on Saturday, September 26! Rock the Commons will be held on the Bentdahl Commons at 2 p.m. Come on out and show your support and cool dance moves while supporting the talent of Luther's own Avery Mossman and Driftwood Bones.

The Luther College Book Shop is hosting the sixth annual storybook reading session from
11 a.m.-noon Saturday, September 26, in the lobby of the Union. The event will feature Luther education department students dressed as their favorite storybook characters as they read selections from various children's books. Author Andy Allen will sign copies of his "Stormin' Norman" children's book series from 1-3 p.m. in the Book Shop.
 
Chad Sonka, Luther College alumni guest lecturer in music, will perform a baritone recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Sonka's recital will feature works of composers such as Vincenzo Bellini, Gustav Holst, Walter Damrosch, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and Robert Schumann.

RERUNS

A radio expedition to Navassa Island
 will be the topic of a presentation by Dr. Glenn Johnson, a Decorah surgeon, on Thursday, September 24 at 7:30 p.m., in Valders Hall of Science, Room 262. Dr. Johnson led a team of amateur radio operators to this primitive wildlife refuge in February. He will explain amateur radio, the expedition and the environmental challenges of the team's weeks on Navassa.  
 

SAC Leadership
will be hosting guest lecturer Adam Carroll on 
Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at 7:30 pm in Valders 206. Adam will be speaking on the topic of financial wellness. "Adam has been a frequent guest lecturer on over 500 campuses and at hundreds of college leadership and fraternity conferences. When attendees are asked what they thought of Adam's presentations, they use words like, "inspirational, impactful, hilarious, and 100% relevant to our situation."

Robert Shedinger will discuss the reluctance of evolutionary scientists to re-evaluate the theory of evolution at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 24, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall. Shedinger's lecture, Resistance to Change in a Theory of Change: Religion, Science and Evolutionary Theory's Failure to Evolve, is the opening lecture of the Luther College 2015-16 Religion Forum Series. 

Need some new decorations to spruce up your room or office? The Center for Sustainable Communities and the Luther College Grounds Crew are hosting a Plant Giveaway on Tuesday, September 22 from 9:40-10:50 a.m. Students and staff are welcome to stop by the greenhouse outside of Valders to pick up a plant, all which have been grown from clippings from plants already on campus.

Spokes bike shop is open for the fall semester! Located in Regents Center across from the Equipment Room, students, faculty and staff can take their bikes to the Spokes for service and maintenance. The shop's hours are follows: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 4-5 p.m.; Tuesday & Thursday 8:30-10:00 a.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Get your bike read and get riding!

What's Your Story? Luther sophomores are invited to a retreat on vocational reflection and conversation at Camp EWALU (Strawberry Point) October 2-3. The retreat is hosted by Luther's Career Center and the Office for College Ministries. Costs are covered through the NetVUE grant. We'll leave campus at 6:00 p.m. Friday and return around 8:00 p.m.Saturday. Register online. For more information, email Pastor Mike or Prof. Ruth Kath.
 
As part of her current U.S. tour Carol Chapman, guest soprano, will perform a voice recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music, Noble Recital Hall.
Chapman will perform songs by composers Franz Liszt, Claude Debussy, Thomas Pasatieri and Richard Strauss, and will be accompanied by pianist James Benecasa.
 
GRADUATE/PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL DAY - Thursday, September 24, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. in the Dahl Centennial Union. Stop by and visit with the representatives from over 40 universities and colleges about their various graduate programs, deadlines and application process.
