Spend J-Term 2016 studying "Entrepreneurship and the Common Good" (Paideia 450). This course takes you from Seattle to Silicon Valley, combines interviews of innovators in many roles from start-ups to some of the world's most powerful companies (Google, Pixar, etc.) with visits to social service providers that help the area's homeless and poor. Organ scholar and honorary fellow of the Guild of Church Musicians, John Keys, will present a concert at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 13, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. The concert is presented as Luther's Annual Benefactor's Organ Recital, featuring outstanding artists of international caliber performing on the Robert Sipe mechanical action organ.
In the opening lecture of the 2015-16 Paideia Texts and Issues Series, Anna Peterson, Luther College assistant professor of history, will present the lecture, Narrating change: Norwegian women's abortion letters, held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, in the Recital Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. The lecture will be followed by a reception in Qualley Lounge. Luther College's music department is pleased to host Svend Rřnning in a guest violin recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 17, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Rřnning will also give a public lecture on Scandinavian music at 9:40 a.m. Thursday September 17, in the Center for Faith and Life, Recital Hall.
Richard Merritt, Luther professor of art, investigates the visual principles of big data through a series of paintings and drawings in his art exhibit "Schemata," on display September 7-October 18 in the Kristin Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery in the CFA. The result of several years of research on social media data, Merritt's exhibit seeks to strip the raw data from models, leaving them with pure schemata. A gallery reception will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, October 17.
Luther has received a $20,000 grant from CIC-NetVUE, the Council of Independent Colleges-Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education.
The NetVUE Chaplaincy Implementation Grant will support a one-year series of student-faculty-staff retreats focusing on the exploration of vocation. Specifically, these retreats connect College Ministries with the Career Center and faculty advising as they work with sophomore students, with a focus on those who have not yet declared an academic major.

CALLING ALL ASPIRING BROADWAY STARS! Upload a 90-120 second video of yourself singing a Broadway show tune to Singing with the Broadway Stars. Michael Chesher, Luther College associate professor of music, and special guest clarinetist Tod Kerstetter from Kansas State University will collaborate with Luther faculty Jessica Paul, piano, and Lynne Postudensek Hart, clarinet, on a recital at7:30 p.m. Saturday, September 12, in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music, Noble Recital Hall.The program consists of varied works for one, two or three clarinets, bass clarinet and basset horn.
