ANNOUNCEMENTS 

 

President Paula Carlson is pleased to announce the appointment of Wintlett Taylor-Browne as interim director of the Diversity Center, effective immediately.

 

A brief observance of national Peace Officers Memorial Day will be held on Friday, May 15 at 12 noon on the Bentdahl Commons. Established by Congress in 1962, Peace Officers Memorial Day honors the more than 19,000 federal, state, and local law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty since the founding of our nation. Rain location will be under the entrance canopy of the Center for Faith and Life.   

 

Counseling Service is hosting a FREE ROOT BEER FLOAT to students on Monday, May 18th from 7:00 pm until ice cream is gone, please bring your own cup.  The event is co-sponsored by Active Minds and Student Senate.  Weather permitting the event will be held outside the Union, rain location is inside the Union on the tile.  

 

Reminder: Summer housing applications are due May 12.


Reminder: Residence halls close on May 21 at 7:00 p.m. Students participating in approved commencement weekend activities, moving into summer housing, on the Nordic choir or Hawaii trip, or riding a shuttle on May 22 do not need to register to stay late. All other requests must approved by the Res Life office by May 16. *TIP:Be ready to move out on time by taking your big items home this weekend or have a parent come for them.Then ride home with a friend May 21 or a shuttle on May 22.   

 

The Book Shop is having a Clearance Cleanup sale Monday - Wednesday, May 11-13. Take an extra 25% off clearance gift items and an extra 10% off clearance clothing items.  

RERUNS

ATTENTION SENIORS:
Graduating seniors with a Perkins, Norse and/or McElroy loan are required to complete loan exit counseling. Luther contracts with Heartland Campus Solutions ECSI to service these loans. You should have received an email from ECSI which provides a link to the on-line exit interview. If you have one of these loans and have not received the email, contact Mary.
Please note this requirement needs to be completed prior to receiving your diploma or an official transcript.

LIBRARY BOOKS ARE DUE!
May 15 is the due date for books checked out from the main stacks by students on or before Sunday, May 10. Books may be renewed once online or by bringing them in physically to the circulation desk if you have exceeded the renewal limit. The new due date is June 26, the last day of classes for Summer Session I. Click on "Library Account", then "My Library Account" in the upper right corner to see what you have checked out and when it is due.

Recreational Services is looking for students interested in officiating intramurals for the 2015-2016 school year as well as students that could teach a fitness class. We are looking for two yoga instructors as well as other classes (which could be zumba, kickboxing, boot camp). Please stop by the Recreational Services office to pick up an application form.

The Art Galleries Department is seeking a gallery assistant, one hour per week, for the 2015-2016 academic year. This position involves developing materials that advertise and promote the art gallery exhibit. Work will include the creation and distribution of postcards/posters and the creation and installation of exhibit labels. Qualifications include familiarity with Photoshop, strong writing and proof-reading skills, good sense of design and interest in marketing. Please contact David Kamm for more information.

The three teams of the Luther Ultimate Flying Disc Association competed at ultimate conference playoffs April 11-12 in Ames, Iowa. The men's teams, Pound and Lufda, advanced to regionals and competed April 25-26 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The women's team, Freya, advanced to nationals for the first time in the team's history. They will compete May 16-17 in Rockford, Illinois.

 

Luther College's Launching Luther Leaders program announced the recipients of the third annual Student Leadership Awards to individuals and groups for their contribution to the college's mission of service at their banquet held Sunday, May 3. Award recipients include Student Senate's Happiness Week for Outstanding Event or Activity; Luther College Dance Marathon for Outstanding Service Project; Maia Pugh was named Outstanding Student Leader and the Luther College Pep Band was awarded Outstanding Organization Award.

Luther College's Todd Green combats Islamophobia in his new book "The Fear of Islam: An Introduction to Islamophobia in the West." The book is available through Fortress Press, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble and IndieBound. CNN interviewed Green about Pam Gellar, president the American Freedom Defense Initiative and planner of the "Draw Mohammed" event in Garland, Texas, where two gunman were shot and killed after opening fire at the event.

Have extra dinning dollars left over at the end of the year? Don't let then go to waste! There is an end of the year program called Dinning Dollars for Decorah. Simply go to the Dinning Services office 8 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (May13-19), and fill out a form to donate as much of your dinning dollars as you would like into a special account to be used to purchase food for the local food pantry.
