The Oneota Review will be celebrating the release of the 2015 edition with a launch party this Friday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Marty's. Come hear original readings of poetry and prose, enjoy the visual art showcase, and support student artists. All are welcome.

Iowa Public Radio will feature Luther College productions of Puccini's "Suor Angelica" and "Gianni Schicchi" at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 25, and at 10 p.m. Sunday, April 26. As part of IPR's "Arias in April" season, the recordings can be heard online through the streaming media player found at www.iowapublicradio.org or on the following IPR Classical broadcast frequencies.

 

Luther College's Cantorei and Luther Ringers will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Cantorei, an auditioned women's choral ensemble with 36 members, is directed by Linda Martin, Luther instructor in music. The Luther Ringers, a 13-member bell choir, is directed by Gregory Peterson, Luther associate professor of music and college organist. 

 

After hosting a lecture by "The Big Tiny" author Dee Williams last September, the Luther College Center for Sustainable Communities will host a workshop for local tiny house owners and enthusiasts Saturday, April 25, in Room 206 of Valders Hall of Science. The workshop is open to all with no charge, but registration is requested.  

 

Luther's Visual and Performing Art department presents Metamorphoses by Mary Zimmerman. The performances will be held in the Jewel Theatre in the Center for the Arts on May 1-2 and 7-9. Metamorphoses retells ancient myths from Ovid's narrative poetry in contemporary fashion to explore each myth's elusive meaning. Due to adult themes and content, only mature audiences are encouraged to attend. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at www.tickets.luther.edu or at the Luther Ticket Office.   

 

Sustainability has work study positions open for the fall of 2015. This position is related to campus recycling, composting, document destruction and redeemable items as needed in order to be a more environmentally conscious campus. Team up with a fellow student and learn how Luther recycles through work study. You must have a valid driver's license to be eligible. Positions start September 2015. The Alumni Office is seeking an assistant for the fall of 2015. Within this position, you would assist the office staff with scanning and linking confidential documents, clerical duties, special projects, answering phone calls, and delivering messages/packages to other offices/ buildings. Natural Building in Japan: Past and Present. Kyle Holzhueter, a Luther grad who has lived in Japan for the past decade, specializes in natural building materials. He has a PhD in Bioresource Sciences from Nihon University where he researched straw bale walls in Japan and building practices to control moisture. This talk will focus on Japanese building practices and their relevance for sustainable construction in the U.S. -Thursday, April 23 at 4:00 p.m. in Valders 362.

   

Victoria Barnett, staff director at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and member of the museum's committee on ethics, religion, and the Holocaust will present a lecture titled "Dietrich Bonhoeffer: 'Unfinished' Hero." at 6:30 p.m. ON April 23, in Olin 102. Barnett will discuss the ethics of resistance in the Holocaust in relation to Bonhoeffer. A reception will follow.

Northeast Iowa: A Quarter Century Retrospective features samples from Robert Campagna's selenium-toned, film-based photographs of people and landscapes in Northeast Iowa. The gallery will be open for viewing April 22-May 24 in the upper level of the Center for Faith and Life. A gallery reception will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22 

  

Richard Merritt and Scott Hurley will present the Paideia Texts and Issues lecture "Invisible Geographies: Violence and Oppression in the Prison Industrial Complex and Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations" at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 23, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall. A reception, held in Qualley Lounge, will follow the lecture. 

 

Luther College's Collegiate Chorale will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, in the Center for Faith and Life. The performance is part of the Collegiate Chorale's annual Midwest Tour. Collegiate Chorale, under the direction of Andrew Last, Luther assistant professor of music, is composed of select junior and senior singers.

The Luther College Wind and Percussion Ensemble and Varsity Band will present a concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. Luther College Wind and Percussion Ensemble and Varsity Band are directed by Joan deAlbuquerque, Luther associate professor of music and director of bands.


Spokes bike shop is open for the spring semester! Located in Regents Center across from the Equipment Room, students can take their bikes to the shop for service and maintenance. The shop's hours are as follows: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 3 p.m.-5 p.m.; Tuesday, 8 a.m.-9:30 a.m.; Thursday, 8 a.m.-9 a.m.; Sunday, 3 p.m.-5 p.m. Get your bike in and get riding!
