ANNOUNCEMENTS 

There will be an information meeting for "Tales of the Sea," --  a J-term literature course in the Virgin Islands aboard the schooner, Roseway -- Tuesday April 14, at 5:45 pm, in the Mott Room, Union. All interested students are welcome.

Looking for a roommate for next year? Res Life is hosting an informal gathering for anyone looking for a roommate on Sunday, April 12 at 9:00 p.m. in Brunsdale Lounge.

J-TERM 2016 IN VIETNAM: The Paideia 450 course "Stability and Change in Vietnam" will be co-led by John Moeller (Political Science) and Steve Holland (Economics). An informational meeting will be held on Sunday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Mott Room (Union).
  

Luther College's Brass Ensembles will perform in concert at 
7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall.

Luther's Mass Brass Ensemble, Trumpet Ensemble, Horn Choir, Trombone Choir and Tuba Euphonium Ensemble, will perform both modern and classical styles, as well as arrangements and original compositions for brass.    

 

Mythbusters for first-year students! Res Life will be conducting information sessions about room draw in your hall on Monday, April 13.  Ylvisaker at 7:00, Brandt at 8:00, Olson at 9:00. Plan to be in the social lounge with your friends and your questions!   

 

 

A Senior Moment: 2015 Theatre & Dance Project Showcase - Join the Class of 2015 Theatre & Dance majors as they showcase their senior projects. These students encompass a wide variety of areas within the performing arts, including costuming, lighting, dance, theatrical performance, and more. Free admission! Robert Wolf, Bonnie Koloc, and friends will read from a forthcoming Free River Press anthology, American Portraits, with stories from Pine Ridge Reservation, Texas ranches, Iowa farms, Chicago and elsewhere. Reading will be videotaped by Luther student Emily Tope for a documentary. Where: Luther College, Olin 102. When: April 15, 7:00-8:00 p.m. Admission free.

The Luther Aquatic Center is hiring summer lifeguards. We need 3 certified lifeguards that will average 12-15 hours/week. Please contact Human Resources to apply.  

 

Calling all Classics Scholars! Our daughter needs to learn first-year Latin basics for her new curriculum beginning in Autumn 2015. We would love the help of a Luther Latin scholar who will be in Decorah to help her along over course of the summer months. We will provide the learning materials and will compensate on an hourly basis. If interested email Kristin.

Luther College is proud to present the premiere of All Recipes Are Home on Saturday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the CFL. This original musical combines stories from farms in Decorah with the music of the Awful Purdies to create a unique experience that will have you thinking of food and home. Tickets are free with CAF, $27 without. To purchase tickets, visit the ticket office or go online to tickets.luther.edu.

 

The Center Stage Series is happy to announce that there will be a food drive at the premiere of All Recipes are Home! We encourage everybody to bring one nonperishable food item or $1, which will buy $11 worth of food! This simple act of kindness will help support the Decorah community and encourage all people to think of food when they think of home.

Jennifer LeDoux, Luther senior from Minneapolis, Minnesota, is the 2014-15 recipient of the Alan R. and Sally J. Brudos Family Opera Prize. She will perform a recital at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 11, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. A reception will follow the performance.

Looking for an exciting, challenging class for Fall 2015? The Scholars Program is offering several new courses, listed on my.luther.edu under our theme, Intersections: Seeking the Common Good. Seminars engage students in deep interdisciplinary exploration of big issues and fulfill some all-college requirements. The colloquium, Civic Engagement, offers a creative way to connect learning with action. It's time for Honor Council Elections! There are four positions available. J-TERM 2016 IN TANZANIA: The Paideia 450 course "People and Parks: Pastoralism and Conservation in East Africa" is a cultural immersion experience based in Maasai villages, small towns, and conservation areas in northern Tanzania. An informational meeting will be held on Thursday, April 9 at 9:40 am in Koren 216.  For more  information  contact Lori Stanley or Brad Chamberlain.

Does your organization have an eventservice project, and/or student leader that deserves recognition? The Launching Luther Leaders (L3) Program invites nominations for the 2014-2015 awards program! The top three candidates from each category will be recognized at the L3 awards banquet on Sunday, May 3, 2014. Apply soon! (Nominations are due on Tuesday, April 14th.)  

 

Spend J-Term 2016 studying "Entrepreneurship and the Common Good" (Paideia 450). This course in California's Silicon Valley combines visits with innovators at start-up companies and officials at some of the world's most powerful companies (Google, Pixar, etc.) with visits to social service providers that help the area's many people who are homeless and poor. Preus Library's annual National Library Week book sale will be held Monday, April 13 to Friday, April 17. Hundreds of hardcover and paperback books will be available for purchase in the library. Prices decline daily.
