ANNOUNCEMENTS 

 

Gratitude for Mary and Martin McAleese. We would like to invite you to write your own letter of thanks to Mary and Martin McAleese for their visit and what impact it had for Luther and/or you personally. The goal is to send a beautiful box to them filled with letters of gratitude and meaning. Please send all letters to the Campus Programming Office, Attention: Tanya Gertz/McAleese by Thursday April 2nd.   

 

"Live each day, have fun and be a human being" is the motto that Esther Bauer decided to follow every day following her liberation from the Nazi party in the 1940s. Bauer will present the lecture "Living History: A Holocaust Survivor Story" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. Sponsored by SAC Leadership.

 

Author Charles D'Ambrosio will present a reading of selected works at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, in Room 102 of the Franklin W. Olin Building.  

  

The fifth annual Knut Gjerset lecture, "Gifts from Norway," will be presented by Laurann Gilbertson, chief curator of the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum, at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26, in the Recital Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. A reception will follow the lecture in Qualley Lounge.

 

"Where There Were Many" a collaborative "growing" exhibit by artists Katie Hargrave and Amber Ginsburg, and Luther College Art 111 3D Processes students, taught by Joe Madrigal, will be on display March 24-April 29, in the Wigley-Fleming Gallery in the Center for the Arts.

A gallery reception for the artists will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 30.   

 

The Luther College Piano Quartet will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. The program opens with Mozart's Piano Quartet in G minor, followed by Antonin Dvorak's Miniatures for String Trio, and concludes with Robert Schumann's Piano Quartet in E-flat major

 
Norse Cheerleading will host tryouts for the 2015 football season on Sunday, March 29. There will be a clinic from 9-11 a.m. with tryouts to follow at 1 p.m. All applicants will be expected to learn a short routine and two cheers. Applicants must also be prepared to stunt and show two jumps. For more information, and to print the application, please visit luther.edu/cheerleading. All male and female cheerleaders are welcome! Prairie Burn Training-If you would like to participate in prescribed burns on Luther's natural areas, you will need to attend one of the followingtraining sessions. The training includes a safety review, so even if you were part of the burn crew last year, attendance is required.

Luther College's Concert Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, at Luther College's Center for Faith and Life. The performance is part of Concert Band's Spring Break tour to Minnesota, California and Arizona. Click on the video icon for live streaming.

 

LIBRARY BOOKS ARE DUE! March 27 is the due date for books checked out from the main stacks by students before Monday, March 16. Books may be renewed once online or by bringing them in physically to the circulation desk if you have exceeded the renewal limit. The new due date is May 15. Click on "Library Account" online, then "My Library Account" in the upper right corner after signing in to see what you have checked out and when it is due.

Are you majoring in a Social Science program and interested in a work-study position as an office assistant for the 2015-16 academic year? Interested applicants should see Heather Frey in Koren 323 for more information and to pick up an application. Application deadline is Thursday, April 2.

 

Free tickets are still available for all faculty, staff, and students not participating in the Messiah concert on Friday, March 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the CFL. Hear the story of Jesus as told by the music of G.F. Handel. Directed by Dr. Allen Hightower, participants include student soloists, Cathedral Choir, Collegiate Chorale, Nordic Choir, and Symphony Orchestra. Tickets available to the general public as well for $20/adult and $10/student. All tickets are available at the Ticket Office. 

 

Seniors: Are you interested in furthering your education in advertising, journalism or communication? Iowa State University Greenlee School of Journalist & Communication will have a representative on campus on Friday, March 27 at an information table in the Union Lounge from 12:00-4:00 p.m. Stop by and visit with them. The Iowa College Foundation announces its call for proposals for R.J. McElroy Trust Student/Faculty Research Projects. Student participants must be juniors or seniors in the fall of 2015. Applications require dual authorship by the proposing student, or team of students, and a sponsoring faculty member. Maximum award is $2,000. Luther is eligible to submit up to 4 proposals. Internal deadline for proposals is Friday, April 10. Forms are available in Union 262 or email brandtja@luther.edu.

Special Notice 

Access to the Regents Center will switch over to card access beginning March 23,2015. The purpose for moving to card access is to limit the number of non-campus members using the facilities without proper authorization.  It is important for us to manage who is utilizing the facility and equipment.

 

All of the entrance doors to the facility will be locked, except for the south entrance (while the building is open for community hours), and the ramp door by room 305, (8am to 5pm M-F.) Faculty, staff and students will be required to have their Luther College ID card to access the building from the doors that have card readers. The readers will be programmed to allow access during normal building hours for most people.

 

Starting on March 23rd, if you do not have your ID, please plan on using the south lobby entrance. 

 

RERUNS 

Timothy Knepper, associate professor of religion at Drake University, will present the guest lecture "How to Teach Philosophy of Religion at a College of the Church" at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206.

The Luther College Music Department will present Handel's "Messiah" as the Spring 2015 oratorio performance at7:30 p.m. Friday, March 27. The performance will take place in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. The performance includes student soloists, Luther's Cathedral Choir, Collegiate Chorale, Nordic Choir and Symphony Orchestra, conducted at the performance by Allen Hightower, Luther director of choral activities and professor of music.

Nominees should be Sophomore and Junior students who have demonstrated a strong contribution to campus life in a way that embraces the spirit and mission of Luther College.
