Do you want to learn more about the Center Stage Series? Come to the Performing Arts Committee meeting on Wednesday, February 25 at 6:00 p.m. in Qualley Lounge in the CFL!  We will discuss PAC's involvement with the Center Stage Series and the upcoming show Hugh Masekela!  Dinner will be provided and as always there will be great giveaways!  

 

The 2014-15 Paideia Texts and Issues Lecture series continues with Nancy Simpson-Younger presenting "Watching the (Secret) Sleeper in Early Modern Drama." The event will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall.  A reception follows in Qualley Lounge.  

 

SAC Spotlight, Pride, and the Diversity Center Presents: StaceyAnn Chin will be in Marty's at 7:30 p.m. on Friday the 27th. She is a an LGBT activist of Chinese-Jamaican and Afro-Jamaican descent. She has been featured on both 60 Minutes and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Tickets can be purchased on tickets.luther.edu.

 

The BTQ sisters are inviting the Luther community to their 3rd annual talent show. It is going to be in the CFL on the 28th of February @ 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available in the Ticket Office and they cost $3 on Friday and $4 if purchased at the door. All proceeds are going to the Decorah Free Clinic and Ebola relief. Come and support Luther students. Performances from Ekilipse, Orchesis, and many more.

Dance Marathon will be holding a silent auction in order to raise money for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. All the money raised from this event will be used to provide financial support for the children undergoing treatment. Up for auction will be artistic creations provided by students and gift baskets provided by local businesses. Come to the Union between 9:30-11:00 a.m. on March 3 to show your support.

The woodwind faculty of Luther College will present a recital at 7 p.m. Saturday, February 28, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. The program features Luther faculty members Carol Hester, flute and alto flute; Heather Armstrong, oboe and English horn; Michael Chesher, clarinet and bass clarinet; and Helen James, bassoon.   

 

The Center for Sustainable Communities is offering a wide range of work study and internship opportunities this summer. Opportunities include internships in the areas of land stewardship, sustainable foods, gardening and environmental education. ELCA SUMMER CAMP FAIR!  - Thursday, February 26, Dahl Centennial Union, 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Looking for a summer job or possible internship? Plan to attend this event and visit with the representatives about their summer staff opportunities! These are different camps than those that attended last week's Fair. Don't miss this one!

A representative from Camp Amnicon will be at an information table in the Union on Friday, February 27 from 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Stop by and visit with Bethany Ringdal about their summer camp positions.   

RERUNS

Summer housing applications are now available in the Residence Life office and on the Res Life website. Eligible students must be enrolled in summer classes, employed on campus for the summer, or an international student enrolled for fall 2015 classes. Housing will be in Miller Hall, meal plans are optional.

Taylor Brorby, writer, environmentalist and GLBT rights activist, will give the lecture "Drill, Baby, Drill: The North Dakota Oil Boom and Iowa's Future" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206. 

 

David Pendergast, Luther College class of 2002 and vice-president of corporate development and legal affairs at PCH International, will present a guest lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 26, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall. The lecture is titled "Cross Pacific Partnerships: The Shenzhen-Silicon Valley Innovation Bridge."

 

Heidi Brende Leathwood, guest pianist, will present a concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, in the Recital Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. Brende Leathwood will be performing Sonata in A Major, Sonata in G Major and Sonata in D Minor by Domenico Scarlatti, Sonata Op. 31 No. 1 and Sonata Op. 109 by Beethoven, and Piano Sonata No. 1 by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki.
