ANNOUNCEMENTS
The community is welcome to an Ecumenical Ash Wednesday Service on February 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the CFL Main Hall, hosted by Luther and St. Benedict's Parish. Join us as we begin the Lenten season with the imposition of ashes and sharing Holy Communion. An offering will be collected to support the Ebola Outbreak Response through Lutheran Disaster Response and to Pathway to Citizenship through the NE Iowa Peace and Justice Center.
Interested in living in a co-ed house next year? The current residents of Norby Global House and Sustainability House invite students to tour the houses on Friday, February 20 .This is a great opportunity to see the inside of these beautiful college-owned houses and talk with the residents about living in these 2 living-learning co-ed communities. Enjoy treats and beverages while you visit Norby House from 3:30 to 5:30 and/or Sustainability House from 4:30 to 6:30.
In our somewhat-human-struggle to hold it together, we build and we grasp, all the while dropping pieces and missing moments. What helps us keep it together? Find out at Forgiveness Lunch, an evening of original dance conceived and choreographed by Blake Nellis, Adjunct Faculty in Dance. Forgiveness Lunch will take place February 20 at 9:30 p.m. & February 21 at 2:00 & 9:30 p.m. in Storre Theatre. With the Luther/Wartburg basketball games on Wednesday, February 18 (Ash Wednesday) College Ministries will offer an "Ashes to Go" station in the Regents Center racquetball court area from 8:30 through halftime of the men's basketball game. This will follow the community Ash Wednesday service at 7:00 p.m. in the CFL that night.
Having a study abroad experience as a student can be life-changing. Steve Holland, Luther College associate professor of economics, will discuss how immersion in a foreign culture can be equally impactful as an adult in his lecture "A Fulbright Year in Montenegro" at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 21, in Shirley Baker Commons.
Why talk about Mental Health? You tell us. New semester, new leaders, new members new ideas. Come join the conversation to raise awareness and reduce stigma surrounding perceptions about mental health. The Luther College Balalaika Ensemble will perform in concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 22, at Shirley Baker Commons. The ensemble will perform classic Russian and Ukrainian folk songs and Romany songs "Kalinka," "The Ural Mountain Ash Tree," "Dark Eyes," "Two Guitars," "Fellows, Unharness Your Horses," the Jewish favorite "Tum Balalaika" and beloved Soviet tunes "Moscow Nights" and "Katiusha."

Luther College will host the 67th annual Dorian Band Festival February 22-23. High school band students nominated by their high school directors come to stay on campus for the chance to experience Luther, rehearse with music faculty and perform in concert. The first festival concert, featuring Luther's Concert Band, Faculty Wind Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra, begins at 7 p.m. Sunday, February 22, followed by the Dorian Band Festival Grand Concert at 6:30 p.m. Monday, February 23.
Tim Johnson, Seed Savers seed bank manager, will discuss the biology of seeds, seed storage, a brief history of agriculture and the cultural practice of seed saving as the first step toward agriculture in the lecture "Garden Hackers, Rogue Biologists, and Agricultural Anarchists: The Biology and Culture of Seed Saving" at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, February 19, in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206.

Looking for a summer job? A CHRISTIAN MINISTRY IN THE NATIONAL PARKS. ACMNP Ministry Teams lead interdenominational services of worship each summer in over 28 national park campgrounds and amphitheaters across America - everywhere from Yosemite, Glacier, Yellowstone, and the Grand Canyon to Denali, Alaska and Acadia, Maine. We are two retired Luther faculty (43 and 35 years, respectively, both in the English department) seeking an Austin, Texas, area house-sit or inexpensive rental during parts or all of May and June so that we can support our daughter's family in Cedar Park as they have their first child. Luther College has been named among the top schools in the United States for number of students granted a Fulbright award. The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs recently announced the U.S. colleges and universities that produced the most 2014-15 Fulbright U.S. students and the list was highlighted in the "The Chronicle of Higher Education." The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government's flagship international educational exchange program.

Called "one of the best jazz bands in NY today" by Forbes Magazine, the Hot Sardines bring an exciting show from start to finish. Hear a virtuoso piano, a jazzy clarinet, and a soulful voice combine with a swinging rhythm that will make you want to get up and dance! Tickets are free with CAF, $27 without. Miko Kominami, Luther College adjunct faculty in music, will perform a piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 19, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. The recital is titled, "Pictures and Music," and will feature works by composers Jerry Owen and Modest Mussorgsky. Lisa Rausch, lead post-doctoral researcher on a project studying deforestation in Brazil, will present a guest lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 19, in the Valders Hall of Science Room 206.
The Oneota Review is now accepting submissions! Luther's annual written and visual art magazine will be accepting submissions until March 8. SUMMER CAMP FAIR - Thursday, February 19 in the Dahl Centennial Union from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Representatives from over 25 camps will be attending to visit with students who are interested in their summer camp opportunities. Plan to stop by and visit with them. The ELCA Summer Camp Fair will be held the following week (on February 26). Different camps at each Fair!
