Luther will host the 12th annual Black History Symposium on February 11-12. The symposium, titled "Africans and African-Americans: It's Complicated," will feature a number of events focused on exploring the fascinating and often contentious relationship among various groups of African-descended people in the United States. The symposium begins with a special screening of the documentary "Bound" at4 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, in the Valders Room 206.

Weekday chapel in the CFL Main Hall is once again being live streamed and archived online. Go to "Watch Live Stream".  You can watch the live stream at 10:30am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays when classes are in session. You can see archived past chapels anytime by clicking on the "On Demand" tab.

Find out more at the Malta Program information meeting on Thursday, February 12 at 6 p.m. in the Borlaug Room of the Union. Or, contact the Center for Global Learning for Learning to answer questions about this Luther study abroad program.

Guest recitalists Liz Pearse and Karl Larson will present a voice and piano concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 12, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Pearse and Larson will perform Olivier Messiaen's "Harawi," a 12-song cycle based around themes of love and death.

Luther's Nordic Choir will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, at the Center for Faith and Life as a culmination of the choir's 2015 Midwest tour. The performance will be available to view live online at http://stream.luther.edu. The program includes pieces by William Byrd, Bach, Eric Whitacre and Frank Martin, as well as hymn-arrangements, spirituals and the traditional Nordic Choir closing piece "O Lord God"by Pavel Chesnokov.

Cantorei is a women's choir serving the Luther community.  Rehearsals are from 4:15 to 5:15 in the Noble Recital Hall M,T,TH. If you were not a member of Cantorei during the fall of 2014 and would like to join for the spring, please email [email protected] to set up a meeting time.

LUTHER HEIGHTS BIBLE CAMP will be at an information table in the Union lounge on February 12 and 13 from 9:00 a.m .- 5:00 p.m. to visit with students about their summer staff positions.  Luther Heights is located in Sawtooth National Recreation Area about 40 miles North of Sun Valley, Idaho.  For more information about their camp visit  www.lutherheights.org.

Students living on campus are automatically on a full board meal plan which is 19 meals per week + $200 dining dollars at the beginning of each semester. If full board is not preferred, you have until February 13 to switch to an alternative meal plan: 14 meals/week+$250 dining $'s; 225 meals/semester+$200 dining $'s; 175 meals/semester+$325 dining $'s; or 120 meals/semester+$600 dining $'s. Center Stage Series presents A Midsummer Night's Dream

on Friday, February 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the CFL Main Hall. Prepare to be enchanted by classical ballet set to Shakespeare's immortal story as fairies, humans, dukes, and donkeys collide under the spell of cupid's arrow. Are you interested in being a Resident Assistant? Residence Life is beginning the staff selection process for 2015-2016! Anyone interested in applying for a Resident Assistant position must attend one mandatory information session. You are cordially invited to the opening of "Humans Being: Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai," an exhibition of street photographs taken by 14 students in the Art 290: Picturing Cultural Change in Hong Kong J-term course led by Dr. Kate Elliott and Aaron Lurth. The opening will take place on Saturday, February 7 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Union Gallery. The photographs will be on display from February 8 through February 19.

The Luther Alumni Magazine is seeking student photos from study away experiences over the past year. We invite you to submit 4-5 photos taken during your experience. Please also say what program you were on, your class year, and what prompted you to take each photo. Some photos will appear in the spring print issue of the magazine, and more will appear with the online version. Send photos to [email protected]

Attention Students Registered for Private Music Lessons -- If you decide to drop lessons the following schedule will be used to compute the charge for spring 2015: Dropping lessons: by February 8 - No charge; by February 15 - $38 charge; by February 22 - $76 charge; by March 3 - $114 charge; after March 3 - Full charge/$425. This schedule will be followed with no exceptions.

 

Interested in singing or playing fantastic old music? Audition for Collegium, the Renaissance and Baroque ensemble. Openings for singers and beginning viol and recorder players: rehearsals Monday evenings 7-8:30 and Wednesday 5:15-6:30. Solo and small ensemble opportunities. "Feminine Power and Spirituality," an exhibit of art by Chicago artist Dayo Laoye, will be on display in Luther College's Center for Faith and Life February 4-28. The exhibit coincides with Luther's Black History Symposium February 11-12. The 30 pieces in the exhibition represent Laoye's recent focus on the continuity of African traditions in the northern hemisphere.
