ANNOUNCEMENTS

Luther College's Spring Convocation speaker, Carol Geary Schneider, Ph.D., has been called the most respected and effective change agent in American higher education today. Schneider will give the lecture "The Contemporary Value of a Liberal Education" at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, February 5, in the Center for Faith and Life. Prior to her address, the college will bestow upon Schneider a Doctor of Humane Letters degree.

 

Center Stage Series presents A Midsummer Night's Dream

on Friday, February 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the CFL Main Hall. Prepare to be enchanted by classical ballet set to Shakespeare's immortal story as fairies, humans, dukes, and donkeys collide under the spell of cupid's arrow. With 18 dancers and a magical set, this performance is sure to amaze! Student tickets are free with CAF! Now available online at

ROOM DRAW 2015-2016 has begun. Information and applications can be found on the Residence Life website: https://www.luther.edu/reslife/halls/room-draw/. Students are responsible for application deadlines - many are in February so check it out. Students with questions are encouraged to attend an information session February 8 at 8:00 p.m. in Farwell Lounge or February 11 at 8:00 p.m. in Brunsdale Lounge or stop in the Residence Life office.

Are you interested in being a Resident Assistant? Residence Life is beginning the staff selection process for 2015-2016! Anyone interested in applying for a Resident Assistant position must attend one mandatory information session. The information sessions will be held: Sunday, February 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Valders 206; Tuesday, February 10 at 9:40 a.m. in Valders 362; Tuesday, February 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Valders 206.

You are cordially invited to the opening of "Humans Being: Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai," an exhibition of street photographs taken by 14 students in the Art 290: Picturing Cultural Change in Hong Kong J-term course led by Dr. Kate Elliott and Aaron Lurth. The opening will take place on Saturday, February 7 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Union Gallery. The photographs will be on display from February 8 through February 19.

The Luther Alumni Magazine is seeking student photos from study away experiences over the past year. We invite you to submit 4-5 photos taken during your experience. Please also say what program you were on, your class year, and what prompted you to take each photo. Some photos will appear in the spring print issue of the magazine, and more will appear with the online version. Send photos to magazine@luther.edu

Attention Students Registered for Private Music Lessons -- If you decide to drop lessons the following schedule will be used to compute the charge for spring 2015: Dropping lessons: by February 8 - No charge; by February 15 - $38 charge; by February 22 - $76 charge; by March 3 - $114 charge; after March 3 - Full charge/$425. This schedule will be followed with no exceptions.

 

Interested in singing or playing fantastic old music? Audition for Collegium, the Renaissance and Baroque ensemble. Openings for singers and beginning viol and recorder players: rehearsals Monday evenings 7-8:30 and Wednesday 5:15-6:30. Solo and small ensemble opportunities. "Feminine Power and Spirituality," an exhibit of art by Chicago artist Dayo Laoye, will be on display in Luther College's Center for Faith and Life February 4-28. The exhibit coincides with Luther's Black History Symposium February 11-12. The 30 pieces in the exhibition represent Laoye's recent focus on the continuity of African traditions in the northern hemisphere.

 

Luther College faculty Xiao Hu and Eric Kutz along with guest artists Jubal Fulks and Scot Humes will perform "Contrasts for the End of Time," a recital featuring works for piano, cello, violin and clarinet, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 5 in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music, Noble Recital Hall.
