ANNOUNCEMENTS
Members of the Luther community are asked to tag bicycles used during the winter months. Bike tags can be obtained from the Welcome Desk. RED tags must be put on bikes that will be using the bike racks on campus during the winter months. All bikes that do not have a red
tag will be removed during Winter break. Luther is not responsible for replacing locks or cables that may need cut for removal of bikes.
Do you love the out-of-doors? Would you like to enhance your leadership and outdoor skills? Become a leader for the 2015 Immersion Program! Applications are now being accepted for student leaders. The Immersion Program provides current Luther students with outdoor leadership training and experiences while giving incoming students a community-building wilderness orientation that enhances their personal development and transition to college life. As a follow up from "In the Heat of Night," Boys to Men is part of Keeping it Going (the Conversation). This event is intended to foster conversation around campus on International Men's Day. This talk will include a panel of professors and students who will discuss the role men in society today and to improve gender relations/equality. Join us 6:30-8:00 pm Wednesday, November 19in Mott-Borlaug, with refreshments afterwards!
SAC will be hosting an open house on Tuesday, November 18 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Stop by the office in the Union for cookies, cider, and cocoa and learn more about what Luther's Student Activity Council does and how you can be a part of it!
The Luther College Chamber Orchestra will perform in concert at 4 p.m. Saturday, November 22, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. Chamber Orchestra specializes in works for small orchestra and mixed chamber ensembles ranging from the Baroque era to the 20th century. The Chamber Orchestra performs with the Luther Opera Workshop in alternating spring semesters.
The students in the fall 2014 opera workshop course will present "Orpheus Meets Shakespeare" at 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 21 and 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 22, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.
Performing classic jazz tunes and new funk favorites, the Luther College Jazz Orchestra will take the stage at 4 p.m. Sunday, November 23, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. The concert will also be streamed live.
Looking for a summer job? RIVERSIDE LUTHERAN BIBLE CAMP (Story City, IA) will have an information table in the Union lounge on Monday, November 24 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Check out their website. Stop by and visit with them about their summer staff opportunities.
All seniors completing their senior papers this semester are invited to celebrate their accomplishment with a tasty cupcake, compliments of LIS. Luther College Recordings is proud to announce the newest album from the Luther College Music Department, "Christmas at Luther 2014: And on Earth, Peace." The annual installment of the Christmas at Luther soundtracks is available now as pre-order through the Luther College Book Shop or by phone (888) 521-5039. The album will be available in store and shipped out for pre-orders on December 18.
PLEASE RETURN: On Tuesday, November 11, two bracelets were left in the Dance Studio after Vicky Jaeger's toning class. When the student returned for them, only one remained. The missing bracelet is a gold tennis bracelet with small diamonds. This piece has great sentimental value and cannot be replaced. Meet at first year residence halls every week at 9:45 a.m. to walk to church together. Then join Peer Mentors and a Campus Pastor for brunch and conversation in the cafeteria after worship.
"Good Grief" -- Students who have experienced the loss of a loved one are invited to join College Ministries and Counseling Service for the final gathering of the semester. A light supper will be provided. The gather is this Tuesday, November 18th from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in Nansen (second floor of the Union). The Luther College Religion Department invites you to "Religion among the Liberal Arts," the second event in the 2014-15 Luther College Religion Forum Series, "Teaching Religion at a College of the Church." The forum will take place Tuesday, November 18, at 7 p.m. in Valders Hall of Science, Room 206. Luther faculty members will discuss what constitutes "evidence" of how the academic study of religion fits within the liberal arts and specifically their respective disciplines.
Hola-Enlaces will host a panel about "Children in Immigration" in Olin 102 at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19. Two Luther students will speak about their personal experiences as immigrants, joined by Luther professors who will elaborate on current issues facing immigrant children in the United States. Correction: The visual media office now provides open portrait studio hours once a month for faculty, staff and students. Come to suite 213 in the Union from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.on the second Thursday of each month for any portrait needs. A previous ad read "the second Tuesday" of the month. The new studio hours begin December 11 and continue once a month for the rest of the academic year. With the new hours being offered, walk-ins will no longer be accepted.
Luther College's Brass Ensembles will perform in concert at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19 in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall. The concert includes performances by Luther's Mass Brass Ensemble, Trumpet Ensemble, Horn Choir, Trombone Choir and Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble.
Performing popular jazz favorites Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn and Miles Davis the Luther College Jazz Band concert begins at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, November 20, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. The concert will also be streamed live. Luther's Jazz Band is under the direction of Jon Ailabouni, Luther adjunct faculty in music.
The History Department is proud to present this semester's
Historians' Workshop. On Thursday, November 20th at 6:30 p.m. in Koren 217, Professor Xiaolin Duan will present her research in a talk entitled, "Seeking Identity in Place: Writing the History of Tourism in Pre-Modern China." Dr. Duan is an expert on tourism and environmental history in pre-modern China.

- Remember to pack your thermometer
- Practice prevention: Wash hands often, avoid close contact with ill people, pack hand sanitizer
While You Are Away
- If you become ill during your travel, limit your contact with other people
- Monitor your health including your temperature; drink plenty of fluids, and REST
When You Return to Campus
- Remember that Ebola virus is hard to contract and requires direct contact with someone who is ill. No symptoms = No Risk.
- Pay special attention to your health after you return to campus for 21 days
- Take your temperature in the morning and evening.
- If your temperature is 100.4 degrees or greater, CALL Health Service BEFORE you come in so we can discuss your symptoms and travel history and help you on how to proceed
- Health Service hours are 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. M-F. After hours call the hospital at 382-2911.
