Come hear the Luther College Gospel Choir, under the direction of Sam Simataa, as we perform our final concert! Join us on Sunday,

Representing the culmination of dedicated college careers, Luther senior art majors will present a gallery exhibit of their collective works May 6-25 in the Kristen Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery and the Gregerson Gallery in the Center for the Arts on the Luther campus. A reception for the student artists will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 24, in the Center for the Arts.

 

Open Invitation to a Reading Group Discussion of Hyperobjects: Philosophy and Ecology after the End of the World by Timothy Morton (2013 U of MN Press). Tuesday, June 10th, 1:30-3pm in Borlaug in the Union, light refreshments provided. To reserve a place in the group and sign up for a book, please email Andy Hageman by May 9. Limited to 12. The University of Iowa Mobile Museum will travel to the Luther campus on Saturday, May 3. The museum will be open to the public and located in the Preus Library parking lot from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Decorah Shopping Shuttle--Saturday, May 3rd at 1:30 p.m. A shuttle will drive students from the Union to downtown Decorah and Wal-Mart for a shopping run this Saturday at 1:30 pm. Meet in the Student Organizational Suite 10 minutes before departure. Advanced sign up is highly recommended using the  online form.

 

Vote to help Chris Norton get a car. After many long hours spent in rehabilitation Chris can now stand on his own and walk with assistance. He inspires others to work towards their goals and never give up. To further his independent spirit, he is now competing for votes through National Mobility Awareness to win a car. The Knut Gjerset Annual Lecture has been renewed this year in honor of the bicentennial celebration of the Norwegian Constitution. The lecture "200 Years of May 17th" will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 8, in Room 102 of the Franklin W. Olin Building by
�yvind Gulliksen, professor emeritus of American Studies at Telemark University College and Anna Peterson, Luther College assistant professor of history.
 

ATTENTION SENIORS: Graduating seniors with a Perkins and/or Norse loan are required to complete loan exit counseling. Luther contracts with Heartland Campus Solutions ECSI to service these loans. You should have received an email from ECSI which provides a link to the on-line exit interview. If you have one of these loans and have not received the email, contact Mary at [email protected]Please note this requirement needs to be completed prior to receiving your diploma or an official transcript.

  

Professor of law and former U.S. Rep. Jim Leach will present the Center for Ethics and Public Life lecture, "The Importance of Inspiration: Leaders who Made a Difference," at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, in Room 206 of the Valders Hall of Science.

 

Luther College first year vocal ensembles Norsemen and Aurora will present a spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. The concert begins with the collaboration of both choirs and Luther Philharmonia on a movement from the E minor Mass composed by Anton Bruckner, "Make Our Garden Grow" by Leonard Bernstein and "Homeward Bound" by Mack Wilberg.

 

The Luther College Music Department will present two one-act operas by Giacomo Puccini: "Sister Angelica" and "Gianni Schicchi." Thought by many to be the quintessential Italian opera composer, Puccini's penchant for writing beautiful melodies and for breathing musical life into a story are on full display in these two works. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, and Saturday, May 10, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. Tickets available at the Ticket Office and on-line.
 

Luther College Center for Sustainable Communities is offering a series of gardening classes that aim to provide basic information for beginning gardeners, as well as a forum for more seasoned gardeners. The series is open to the public with no charge for admission, but registration is required. Participants can view classes and register online at https://www.luther.edu/sustainability/food/education/gardens/. The CSC encourages people to register early. The next class, led by David Cavagnaro on May 5, is full. 

 

Jenny LeDoux, a Luther college junior from Minneapolis, has been named the recipient of the 2014-15 Alan R. and Sally J. Brudos Family Prize for Opera Performance at Luther College. LeDoux will present the Brudos Family Opera Prize recital during the 2014-15 academic year.

Certified Lifeguards needed to work summer hours at the Luther Aquatic Center. Lifeguards can earn 10-15 hrs/week. Typical work hours are 6:00-9:00am, 11:00-1:00 daily, plus various other programming.Work begins May 26. Must have all Red Cross life-guarding, CPR, and AED certification current.
