Join us Friday, April 4 at 7:30 as the Center Stage Series presents Phillip Glass! Hear this influential composer in an intimate setting as he fills the evening with his solo piano works. Sean Burke, Luther College associate professor of religion, will present the Paideia Text and Issues lecture, "Engaging the Ancient 'Other': Identity and Alterity" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall. The lecture will be followed by a reception in Qualley Lounge.

   

"Good Grief" -- Students who have experienced the loss of a loved one are warmly invited to join College Ministries and Counseling Service for a light supper and conversation on Tuesday, April 8th from 6:00-7:15 pm in Nansen. Call Mary at #1375 with any questions, and fee free to bring a friend or support person.

 

LIBRARY BOOKS ARE DUE! April 4 is the due date for books checked out from the main stacks by students on or before Friday, March 21. Books may be renewed once online or by bringing them in to the circulation desk if you have exceeded the renewal limit. The new due date is May 16. Click on "LibraryAccount", then "My Library Account" in the upper right corner after signing in to see what you have checked out and when it is due.

 

The Don Kemp Memorial Event will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 4:00 pm in Baker Commons. This annual event is sponsored by the Social Work Program to honor the memory of Don Kemp, celebrate social work month, award two social work scholarships, and induct new members into the Phi Alpha Honor Society. Sara Leahy '10 will speak on "The Real World of Social Work".

  

Informational Meeting: J-TERM 2015, Africana Studies and English 239: Stories in South Africa. THURSDAY, APRIL 3, 7:00-8:00 p.m. MAIN 111.  Professors Nancy Barry and Martin Klammer. Stories in South Africa are powerful, given its history of apartheid and the transition to non-racial democracy in 1994. Stories remain important in this country that is always becoming something new. In this course we will read, see, and hear many South African stories and write our own.

 

J-Term 2015 Religion Course in Northern Europe. Explore "lived Judaism" in four pivotal centers of Jewish life - Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, and Krakow. Learn how each of these communities was decimated as part of the Nazi Final Solution by visiting concentration camps, museums, and memorials in these locations. Info meeting on Thursday, April 3, 8 p.m. in the Art Ed Room, 215 CFA.

An art exhibit featuring abstract acrylic paintings by Iowa artist Mary Zeran will be on display April 1-May 25 in the Center for Faith and Life Gallery, on the upper level of the building. The 17 abstract collages displayed in the exhibit"All Things Beautiful"feature cheerful colors and undulating brushstrokes on a variety of surfaces. Zeran has been creating mixed media collage and assemblage for more than 20 years.

  

Money found in the Library! A container of coins was left at the library copiers prior to spring break. Also, cash was found on the floor near the computer lab on the main floor on Monday during break. Contact [email protected] to claim if you think either may belong to you. 

 

Join the Luther Book Shop for PEEPtacular Day, 8:45 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Friday, April 4. The day will feature Peep treats, marshmallow bars and Peep punch, displays of all Peep dioramas submitted for the contest, voting for the top dioramas from 8:45 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and Book Shop specials throughout the day. Diorama winners announced at 4 p.m.

 

The Book Shop is now accepting entries for the seventh annual Peep diorama contest. Entries can be made by groups or by individuals. Get creative and compete for great prizes. Entries are due in the Book Shop by Thursday, April 3, with winners announced at 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 4.  

 

The winner of the 2014 Luther Wii Bowl-Off is Praying for Turkeys. They beat their contender, I Can't Believe It's Not Gutter by eleven pins. Team members from Praying for Turkeys are Julie Shockey, Aaron Lurth, Gwen Van Gerpen and Andrew Bailey and from I Can't Believe It's Not Gutter are Blake Wragge, Andrew Withers, Krista Konrad and Marlon Henriquez. I Can't Believe It's Not Gutter was the Season Champ.

Area women of all ages will have an opportunity to learn more about financial management, retirement and estate planning, and charitable giving at the 10th annual Women, Faith and Finance seminar on Friday, April 4. Hosted by Luther College, the one-day educational seminar will be presented 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hotel Winneshiek. Luther College Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall. The performance is part of the symphony's spring tour of the Upper Midwest. The 2014 tour program includes selections from the Introduction and Gopak from "The Fair at Sorochinsk" by Modest Mussorgsky, Suite. No. 2 for Small Orchestra by Igor Stravinsky, "Masquerade Suite" by Aram Khachaturian and Symphony No. 1 in C minor by Johannes Brahms.
