Join us, Friday, February 21 as the Center Stage Series presents Fahrenheit 451! Using a minimal set and high-caliber performers, the Aquila Theatre will act out their rendition of  Ray Bradbury's modern classic novel, Fahrenheit 451, which takes place in a dystopian future where books are banned and knowledge is on the edge of existence.Tickets are free with CAF, $15 without. Plan to attend the Biology Alumni Panel schedule for Thursday, February 20, 9:40 a.m. in Valders 206. Alumni presenters will include: Eve Doyle - Production Scientist at Integrated DNA Technologies;  Riley McDowell - Software Developer at Pioneer Hi-Bred; Samantha Stevenson - Technical Services at Epic; Mary Whipple - Clinical Research Coordinator at Mayo Clinic. The Book Shop will be hosting author Douglas Hartmann on Thursday, February 20 from 11:00 a.m.-11:45 a.m. in the Book Shop. His book is titled Race, Culture and the Revolt of the Black Athlete: The 1968 Olympic Protests and their Aftermath. Stop by to meet and converse with the author. 

 

David Briggs, English composer and concert organist, will present an improvisation concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the Center for Faith and Life. As part of the concert, Briggs, who is making his second appearance at Luther, will improvise a score to accompany the 1925 silent film "King of Kings." 

 

SAC Cinema is showing the Hunger Games: Catching Fire this Thursday, the 20th at 9 PM in Valders 206. Cost is free with CAF, and $2 without. Doors open at 8:30. Free popcorn will also be available while supplies last. Get your tickets now at the box office or  tickets.luther.edu!

 

Peter Lingen, music instructor will perform a guitar recital with Excier Rodriquez, '91, at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 20 in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Music Hall.

Bring your laptop to our workshop and learn how to download Zotero and set it up to manage your resources (available for PCs and MACs).

Those who want to listen to the lecture are invited to visit the Archives' Reading Room during open research hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30-4:30, or by special appointment. Regents Panel! SAC Leadership will be hosting a panel of current Luther Regents on Thursday February 20 at 7:30 p.m.

in the CFL Recital Hall with a reception to follow in Qualley Lounge. The panel will feature Bob Paulson, Marilyn Roverud, David Meyer, Wendy Davidson, and Rick Theiler. The Regents will be sharing their work on the Board of Regents and answering audience questions. All students, staff, and community members are welcome free of charge.

The Paideia Text and Issues lecture titled "Other from an Other Other: Science and Fiction in Human-Alien Encounters" will be presented by Eric Baack, assistant professor of biology, and Andy Hageman, assistant professor of English at 7 p.m.Tuesday, February 18, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall.

 

"Sports, Media and Race," the 11th annual Black History Symposium, will be held at Luther February 19-20. Participants will explore the popular perception of athletics, genes and cultural background predicting the advantages and disadvantages that athletes have in particular sports.

 

The Summer Housing Office is hiring! There are several spots available this summer for responsible, enthusiastic, and outgoing individuals. Duties include facilitating client registrations, answering telephones, providing basic information about Luther/Decorah, and more. We want students with excellent communication skills, a strong ability to work independently and take direction from peers, and a focus on providing excellent customer service. Flu vaccine is still available at Health Service. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control) it is NOT too late to receive your flu shot. The majority of infections occurred after December. During some influenza seasons, the incidence of infection may not peak until April or May. Students and staff/faculty who come in on
Friday, February 14, (Valentine's Day) will receive a gift from Health Service. Cost $20, which can be applied to your student account.
  
The Diversity Center is looking for student workers for fall 2014. Vacancies exist for 8 Peer Mentors (3 hours weekly fall semester ONLY), two Student Outreach Assistants, (6 hours weekly all year), one marketing and media assistant, (6 hours weekly all year). All application materials are available at diversity.luther.edu. Applicants MUST have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and available to begin working August 19th. Being able to satisfy Luther's driving requirement is an asset. Applications due by March 7.
