ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

SHOC (Students Helping Our Community) will be sponsoring its third annual Clothes 4 Souls clothing drive during the week of October 21. Clothes 4 Souls is a non-profit organization that provides clothing to people around the world who are impoverished. Please consider helping with the cause by gathering lightly used clothing over Fall Break and donating them in collection boxes, found in the union or other locations on campus. Decorah Shopping Shuttle - If you need food/supplies for Fall Break, take advantage of the Shopping Shuttle on Saturday, October 19. A shopping shuttle will leave from the Union at 1:30 and 3:30 pm and go to downtown Decorah and Wal-Mart for a shopping run. Meet in the Student Organizational Suite 10 minutes before departure. Advanced sign up is highly recommended using the online form.    

 

Meet former ACM Costa Rica faculty director, Le�n Narv�ez, & learn all about the ACM Costa Rica programs! Wednesday, October 16, 1:30 @ Mott (Union). Opportunities in research and community engagement in public health, education, the environment, social sciences, humanities.

 

The college lawns on the upper campus will be fertilized and spot treated for broadleaf weeds, especially along sidewalks and curbs, beginning, Friday, October 18.  The fertilization process will begin during the day on Friday and spraying will take place after 5:00 p.m. and continue throughout the weekend, weather permitting. This procedure is in keeping with Luther's turf management policy. If you would like a copy of the policy, contact Gary Brickman, ext. 1668.

SPECIAL NOTE 

 

On Saturday 10/19/2013 LIS is planning maintenance on our firewall. Maintenance will begin at 4:00 AM and last until approximately 8:00 AM. During this time, the Luther Wireless and Wired networks will be unavailable. Luther-hosted servers including KATIE, Citrix, printing to network printers, and access to network files (e.g. admin1, students, and academic), remote access to online library databases, my.luther and Colleague will be unavailable. Also several services hosted by third party vendors, like Slate, ImageNow, and Symplicity will be unavailable because they are dependent on authentication services that are hosted at Luther. From off-campus, Norse Apps, and the Luther web page will remain up and accessible.

RERUNS 

LIBRARY BOOKS ARE DUE! October 18 is the due date for books checked out from the main stacks by students on or before Sunday, October 13. Books may be renewed once online or by bringing them in physically to the circulation desk if you have exceeded the renewal limit. The new due date is December 13, the last day of classes this fall. Click on " Library Account" online, then "My Library Account" in the upper right corner after signing in to see what you have checked out and when it is due.
 

Did you know your Luther ID gives you free admission to Vesterheim Museum? Only a short walk from campus, Vesterheim is a national treasure that explores the diversity of American immigration through the lens of Norwegian-American experience. Careers & Cookies Alumni Panel -- You're invited to the Careers & Cookies Alumni Panel on Tuesday, October 15, 2:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m. in Olin 102. Hear how five computer science alums are using their liberal arts education to make their communities a better place to live. Panelist include: Microsoft: Jake Nowosatka '13; TeamQuest: Megan Halberg '10; Benetech, Inc: John Brugge '85; IBM: Steve Will '83; Heartland Properties: John Stoneman '83.

 

Learn more about the music of Tango Fire! Michael O'Brien, an ethnomusicologist with more than a decade of experience researching and playing tango music in Argentina, will be offering a pre-concert talk about the history and culture of tango music and dance starting at 6:45 p.m. in the Mott Room at Dahl Centennial Union. Then come on over to the show at 7:30 in the CFL Main Hall!

 

Come join the Luther College HOLA/Enlaces organization to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in Marty's on October 16, from 7:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m. From 7:00 p.m.-8:15 p.m. we will have a display of 5 Latin American countries that are represented at Luther. From 8:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. join us for a DANCE PARTY! Come enjoy Salsa, Banda, Bachata, and many other types of music and be ready to DANCE!
 

Health Service will be conducting Flu Clinics for student and staff/faculty on the following dates:  Friday, October 25 from 8:30-3:30; Friday, November 1 from 12:00-4:00. Prices are $25.00 for injection and $30.00 for flu mist, cash or check only please. Students may apply to student account or pay at time of service.
