LIBRARY BOOKS ARE DUE! October 18 is the due date for books checked out from the main stacks by students on or before Sunday, October 13. Books may be renewed once online or by bringing them in physically to the circulation desk if you have exceeded the renewal limit. The new due date is December 13, the last day of classes this fall. Click on " Library Account" online, then "My Library Account" in the upper right corner after signing in to see what you have checked out and when it is due.
 

Did you know your Luther ID gives you free admission to Vesterheim Museum? Only a short walk from campus, Vesterheim is a national treasure that explores the diversity of American immigration through the lens of Norwegian-American experience. Careers & Cookies Alumni Panel -- You're invited to the Careers & Cookies Alumni Panel on Tuesday, October 15, 2:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m. in Olin 102. Hear how five computer science alums are using their liberal arts education to make their communities a better place to live. Panelist include: Microsoft: Jake Nowosatka '13; TeamQuest: Megan Halberg '10; Benetech, Inc: John Brugge '85; IBM: Steve Will '83; Heartland Properties: John Stoneman '83.

 

All Luther students are invited to attend National Student Day festivities in the Book Shop on Friday, October 11. National Student Day is a day set aside to allow us to say "thanks" to students for all their volunteer efforts. Join us for popcorn, games, discounts and prizes all day. Learn more about the music of Tango Fire! Michael O'Brien, an ethnomusicologist with more than a decade of experience researching and playing tango music in Argentina, will be offering a pre-concert talk about the history and culture of tango music and dance starting at 6:45 p.m. in the Mott Room at Dahl Centennial Union. Then come on over to the show at 7:30 in the CFL Main Hall!

 

Come join the Luther College HOLA/Enlaces organization to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in Marty's on October 16, from 7:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m. From 7:00 p.m.-8:15 p.m. we will have a display of 5 Latin American countries that are represented at Luther. From 8:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. join us for a DANCE PARTY! Come enjoy Salsa, Banda, Bachata, and many other types of music and be ready to DANCE!
 

Health Service will be conducting Flu Clinics for student and staff/faculty on the following dates: Monday, October 14 from 8:30-3:30; Friday, October 25 from 8:30-3:30; Friday, November 1 from 12:00-4:00. Prices are $25.00 for injection and $30.00 for flu mist, cash or check only please. Students may apply to student account or pay at time of service.

 

The first Art Song Jamboree will be held at 5:15 p.m. Monday, October 14, in the CFL Recital Hall.

Coming to Luther from Buenos Aires, Argentina, this authentic dance performance is filled with dramatic turns and lightning fast footwork dancing, all accompanied by a live band. Learn to Tango! Dancers from the Center Stage Series performance Tango Fire will be teaching some Argentine Tango basics on Tuesday, October 15th at 9:40 a.m. in the CFA Studio II. They are world class dancers from Buenos Aires with expertise in many forms of Tango. No experience is necessary to attend, it's free of charge, and everyone is welcome. If you've always wanted to learn the Tango, now is your chance!

  

 

  

Dining Services would like to invite everyone to the Grand Opening of the Ice Cream/Coffee Shop on October 14, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Come and see as we reveal the name of the Ice Cream/Coffee Shop and the student who won the two free airline tickets. Samples will be available all day for you taste testing. Come and enjoy some samples of Kunn Coffee, Ice Cream and pastries.

 

Luther's Balalaika Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, October 12, in the Main Hall of the CFL. The fully costumed ensemble features Russian folk instruments such as the balalaika and the domra, as well as vocalists, accordion and percussion. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission, although a free-will offering is appreciated to benefit the Bruce and Amy Wrightsman Memorial Scholarship, which supports study abroad for Luther Russian studies students. 

  

It has been said that "the darkest thing about Africa is our ignorance of it." Expand your mind and experience the richness of African culture by participating in Preus Library's new African Book Club. Our current book is Coconut by Kopano Matlwa, a story set in South Africa that deals with growing up as a black child in a white world. Beth Ray, associate professor of music, and Edwin Andereck, professor of music, will present a joint voice recital at 4 p.m. Saturday, October 12, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Music Hall on the Luther campus. The performance is open to the public with no charge for admission. Ray, mezzo soprano, and Andereck, tenor, will perform a variety of music by Monteverdi, Massenet, R. Strauss, Handel, Haydn and Mozart.
