Join us this Saturday, September 14th at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life for our first show of the year, 'Ring of Fire'.  A musical tribute to music legend Johnny Cash. Rather than doing a straight-up Cash impersonation, a company of performers will guide you through Cash's repertoire-from gospel to folk, from rock to blues to country-setting the stage ablaze in this touching and exuberant musical tribute. See you there!

Come find out more about interfaith opportunities on campus and to help brainstorm ideas for the new academic year.

 

SPEND J-TERM 2014 IN LONDON AND IRELAND: "Traveling the Path of Early Books" will visit London, Dublin, Newgrange, Galway and other Irish locations to trace the development of early books. Listen Well, Speak Truth, Be Peace: Take part in the Journey Conversations interfaith contemplative conversation retreat with Luther students, faculty, and staff on Sunday, September 15, 2-5 p.m., in the CFL Main Hall. The retreat is powerful as a stand alone experience. If you would like, after the retreat you will have the opportunity to join a small group for the semester. SPEND J-TERM IN NORWAY AND THE BALKANS!  Learn about peace and reconciliation dialog at the Nansen Center in Norway (Lillehammer and Oslo), and then travel to Croatia (Dubrovnik) and Bosnia/Herzegovina (Sarajevo, Mostar) in the West Balkans.  ForCul/ScanSt 339: "Peace and Reconciliation Dialog in Norway and the Balkans." "A Friend Asks" App - Would you know how to help a friend who is contemplating suicide? Download this free smart phone app from the Jason Foundation that helps provide the information, tools and resources to help a friend (or yourself) who may be struggling with thoughts of suicide. A recommendation from the Luther Counseling Service.

 

Working on a research paper? Wondering how to keep track of your sources, create a bibliography and footnotes? Zotero (free application) helps you collect, manage, and cite your sources. Bring your laptop to our workshop and learn how to download Zotero and set it up to manage your resources (available for PCs and MACs). Correction: Award-winning authors Anne Lamott and Mark Salzman are the featured speakers at the 2013 Luther College Writers Festival,September 27-28. The festival will offer workshops, panel discussions on craft, and readings in poetry, fiction and nonfiction. Festival cost is $25 for Luther faculty/staff and $10 for Luther students. CHAPEL TIME - A reminder to the community that there are to be no meetings scheduled during 10:30-10:50 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Luther is distinctive in its practice of setting aside space for community-wide chapel and the campus is asked to respect this tradition of having "set apart" time for reflection and spiritual nourishment

  

Nationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Mat Kearney will appear Friday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Regents Center! General admission tickets are already available to students, free with the Co-Curricular Activities Fee (CAF); and public sales will begin on Wednesday, September 12. The Counseling Service (Larsen Hall, lower level) offers confidential counseling for personal issues to enrolled students at no charge. Any personal issue, large or small, is appropriate. To make an appointment to see a counselor, stop by during weekday office hours: 8 am to noon
