NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS 
 
Luther College will hold a special program in honor of President Rick and Mrs. Judy Torgerson on Thursday, May 16. The main program will be held at 8 p.m. in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life, followed by a reception at 9 p.m. in Bentdahl Commons. This event is open to the public with no charge for admission. However, those who plan on attending are asked to RSVP at:

Senior Recognition Convocation, Tuesday, May 7, 9:40 a.m. CFL Main Hall: Celebration honoring all members of the Class of 2013, and recognizing those who have earned Latin honors (cum laude, magna cum laude, and summa cum laude designations), those elected to Phi Beta Kappa and to honor societies in their major fields, those receiving post-graduate and departmental awards, and academic all-conference athletes. Judy Torgerson will give the address, "Reflections and Gratitude."  The printed program includes titles of senior projects, and a Class of 2013 group photo will be taken.

 

Please join the History Dept. as we celebrate the retirement of Marv Slind with a reception on Tuesday, May 7.  All are invited for ice cream treats in Koren, 3rd floor atrium, from 2:30-4:30 pm.

The Luther Reuse Sale will be held on Thursday, May 2 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.. View the updated inventory list. The sale will take place in the Ashmore-Jewell barn, next to Baker Village.  

Luther College celebrated Denim Day Wednesday, April 24 in efforts to raise awareness about rape, its misconceptions, and prevention during sexual assault awareness month. Luther raised $410, which will be used to support sexual assault awareness month next year at Luther and provide assistance to Northeast Iowa services that support sexual assault victims.

Volunteer to be a waste diverter during finals week! Help reduce the quantity of materials that end up in the landfill, as well as help students learn what is waste vs. what is recyclable/reusable. Volunteers will be placed at residential halls near the trash/recycling area and inside the building and will be given permission to stay on campus through the end of finals week. Fill out the waste diverter sign-up if interested!
RERUNS
 
As part of the Student Research Symposium opening plenary Friday, May 3, at 9:00 a.m. in the CFL, President Torgerson will be honored with the Norwegian Royal Order of Merit. The entire campus is invited to attend the plenary session and the reception that will follow at 10:15 a.m. in Bentdahl Commons. The reception, and all-college picnic at 12:00 noon that day, are opportunities for students, faculty and staff to extend best wishes to the Torgersons. 
 
The schedule for the Friday, May 3, Student Research Symposium is posted on the research symposium website: Reminder: there are no classes scheduled for Friday so that everyone is able to attend the full day's activities. 
 
Luther College will host the Lucille Stansberry Rosholt Distinction in Accompanying and Collaborative Keyboard Performance Scholarship recital Sunday, May 5 at 2 p.m. in the NRH. The recital will be followed by an award ceremony and reception. The program is open to the public with no charge for admission. The competition recital will feature performances by three Luther music student finalists: Charles Hoeft, Bobby Ragoonanan and Esme Wong Su Leei. 

 

Take another step towards a sustainable lifestyle by getting your room green certified.  Complete the

application process before May 6th and you will be entered in a drawing for a $25

The Luther College Chamber Orchestra will present a mostly Bach program at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Chamber Orchestra is conducted by Daniel Baldwin, professor of music and director of orchestras. The program will begin with a performance of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major, BWV 1048, followed by a piece written by 20th century American composerRamiro Cort�s, his "Meditation on 'Christ Lag in Todesbanden.

 

Luther presents Pat Benincasa's paintings, "Circle + Rust," on display through May 3 in the Kristin Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery of the Center for the Arts. Benincasa has 12 mixed-media paintings on display at Luther that focus on the industrialized cities of the American Rust Belt. She created her paintings from industrial materials and city maps, focusing on large painting of cities such as Detroit and Flint, MI; Gary, IN, Youngstown and Akron, OH.
