NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS 
 

On Friday, March 29th (Good Friday), LIS will be upgrading our Network Access Control System. This work will begin at 7:00 am and is expected to be completed before noon. During this time, users may be unable to connect to the LCWireless and LCWireless5G networks. The LCGuest wireless network and the Wired network will remain available during the upgrade. Check http://lis.luther.edu/blog  for updates on the upgrade's progress.

  

The Red Watch Band program is being developed by students, and needsyour help.  The mission of the program is to provide students of the college community with the knowledge, awareness, and skills toprevent toxic drinking deaths, and to promote a student culture of kindness, responsibility, compassion, and respect. The program will be led by eight student facilitators, positions for which we are currently taking nominations. Please follow this link for more information:

As part of the continuing effort to pay homage to its strong Norwegian roots, Luther College will host a performance in honor of a highly accomplished Norwegian composer. "The Life and Music of Theodora Cormontan" will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. The performance is open to the public with no charge for admission.  

 

Volunteers from Luther College's student congregation will help Decorah residents with spring chores on Saturday, April 13 during the annual Spring Fling community service day. Decorah residents can sign up by contacting Luther College Ministries, 5630387-1271 or [email protected]. Deadline for registration is Monday, April 8. Residents requesting Spring Fling assistance should provide a brief explanation of the spring chores they would like accomplished during the allotted 90 minutes. 

For several years the Luther College Bookstore has provided seniors with Jostens' The Elements Collection graduation gowns, made from natural and decomposable materials. Each gown includes a code that, if entered at
www.jostens.com/cgd/elements/givebac,   
will ensure Jostens donates $1 to two sustainable organizations. Since 2011, Sustainability has partnered with the Bookstore, collecting and entering codes for each student. As a result, hundreds of dollars have been donated thanks to the bookstore's continued purchasing of these gowns.

Starting in Fall 2013 the Paideia department has decided to transition to regularly sized binders for the Paideia Readers, helping reduce the size of the Luther College waste stream. Collection sites for the mini Paideia binders from this year and any other unwanted school supplies will be provided along with the usual recycling containers in residence halls on move-out day at the end of this school year.

 

Sustainability would like to recognize the outstanding participation of the following students in the 2013 Energy Competition: Amanda Schaefer & Jordan Daley (Baker Village); Bee Vang (Larsen); Charlie Bruer & Beth Mollen (Olson); Cassie Campbell & Natalie Auer (Ylvisaker); Ally Wittig (Farwell); Alex Catena & Chris Lovagnini (Brandt); Noelia Pereira & Marfi Manuel (Miller). These students will receive $10 worth of Chamber Dollars. Contact your hall's Sustainability Rep for questions and ways to continue your involvement in sustainability!

 

Luther Sustainability thanks students for participating in the 2013 Energy Competition. Larsen Hall came in first place with an average of 13.75% reduction in electricity and water consumption over the 3-week competition and will be awarded $500. Baker Village came in second with an average of 10.65% reduction in electricity and water consumption over the 3-week competition and will be awarded $200.Please offer feedback by taking our one minute survey by following this link. 

 

The Book Shop is now accepting entries for the 6th annual Peep diorama contest. Two categories this year will include one for departments and one for all other entries. Get creative and compete for great prizes. Entries are due in the Book Shop by Thursday, April 4, with winners announced on Friday, April 5 at 3:30 p.m.

J-TERM 2014 PAIDEIA II COURSE IN TANZANIA: "People and Parks: Pastoralism and Conservation in East Africa" is a cultural immersion experience examining the tensions between the national parks movement and the pastoralist Maasai people of northern Tanzania.
