KWANZAA CELEBRATION--Join the community as we mark the festival of Kwanzaa, a celebration of African heritage, with a special Kwanzaa Chapel on Friday, December 7, at 10:30 a.m. in the CFL Main Hall, and a dinner and program on Saturday, December 8, at 4:00 p.m. in Peace Dining Room.  Tickets for the dinner are $5 for students with CAF plans/$10 for others and can be purchased at the Luther College Box Office until Wednesday, December 5th. 

Advent Devotional booklets to guide your daily devotions during Advent are available after worship services or in the College Ministries Office (first floor CFL). Pick up your free copy!

The Climbing Wall will be closed Friday, November 30 - Sunday, December 2 due to staff singing in the Christmas at Luther concerts.

Get your ticket before they are sold out! Student tickets for As You Like It (February 15th) and Cirque Ziva (February 21st) go on sale December 3rd. Tickets are FREE with CAF. Stop by the Box Office to get yours!

Luther College's Christmas at Luther Emmy statue is on display as part of Luther's Christmas through the years display on display November 29 through December 2. The Emmy statue that was awarded to Luther College in 2008 will be on display Thursday-Sunday, November 29-December 2, on the main floor of Preus Library on the Luther campus.

Santa will make an early stop in Decorah as Luther celebrates "Christmas in the Union" Wednesday, December 5, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Union. Activities will include cookie decorating, hot chocolate and cider, crafts, a holiday movie and music. Santa will be available to pose for pictures with children by the fireplace in the Union Lobby from 5-6:30 p.m. The Book Shop will also be open until 6:30 p.m offering store wide discounts, movies, popcorn.

Vote for your favorite student "Ugly Christmas Sweater" and your favorite faculty/staff "Ugly Christmas Decoration" on Wednesday, December 5 until 4:30 p.m. in the Book Shop. Winner of the decoration contest will be announced at 5:05 p.m. and a fashion show and judging of the sweaters will take place at 5:45 p.m.

A holiday dinner of turkey, ham and all the fixings will be held on Wednesday, December 5 from 5 - 7:30 p.m. Adults, $8.75, kids 5-10, $4.45 and kids 5 and under, free.

Class Project: Sustainability Forum. Do you have suggestions, ideas or questions about sustainability on campus? Join President Torgerson for dialogue, questions, suggestions and new information about sustainability projects and initiatives on Luther's campus. Professors Eric Baack, Jim Martin-Schramm, Craig Mosher, and Energy and Waste Steward Erika Kambs will be speaking. Tuesday, December 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the CRH.  Refreshments will follow the forum.

RERUNS  

This year's Nobel Peace Prize Forum will be held in Minneapolis March 8-10. Last year the event sold out so register early. Luther will charter a bus to take people up and back for the Saturday, March 9 program focused on the relationship of health and science to global security.  It will include a keynote address by Dr. Paul Farmer, co-founder of Partners in Health, along with break-out sessions and workshops with thought leaders and scientists who are reshaping our world.  Register at http://nobelpeaceprizeforum.org  ($10 for students; $40 for all others).  If you want to ride the Luther bus (no charge), reserve a seat by contacting Karen Martin-Schramm. The bus will leave at 6:00 a.m. and return at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9.  

 

Members of the Luther community are asked to tag their bike if they plan on using the bike racks during the winter months. Bike tags can be obtained from the Welcome Desk, Residence Hall Service Centers, Facilities, Security staff members, and near the exit of the Dining Hall. All bikes not tagged will be removed on December 17-18th.  Luther is not responsible for replacing locks or cables that may cut for removal of bikes. Students are also encouraged to take their bikes home during break if they do not plan on using them during the winter months.

  

Interested in being one of Luther's 2013 Peace Scholars?  Two Luther
students will be awarded the opportunity to study issues and theories
regarding conflict, war and peace in Lillehammer and Oslo, Norway from June 17-August 2, 2013.  All program fees, including academic
credit, room and board are covered. The program is open to all
sophomores and juniors. Application requirements and more information about the program are available at http://peacescholars. wordpress.com or by contacting Karen Martin-Schramm, assistant to the president. The application deadline is January 31.

 

The Sustainability House is hosting a Sustainable Homes Tour of three homes in the Decorah area on Saturday December 1st from 11:30am to 4:30pm.  The maximum number of people that can come is 22; spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please sign up by Friday November 30th at 10am.  Contact Maddie Ford with questions.   

 

Luther College Book Shop will host book signing sessions with authors Patrick "Packy" Mader from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; Kristina Nienhaus from 2-3 p.m. and Cheryl Kirking from 4-5 p.m. Saturday, December 1 in the Luther College Book Shop.
